ROBBO: "IT'S BUSINESS AS USUAL"

Posted on: Fri 20 Nov 2009

Town winger Gary Roberts has told htafc.com that complacency is not an issue ahead of this weekend's visit of Hartlepool United to the Galpharm Stadium, kick-off 3pm.

The Terriers have smashed home 20 goals in their last four home fixtures and are unbeaten on home soil this term, but 'Robbo' insists that there is no chance of the players getting ahead of themselves.

"The coaching staff and a fair few of the players have enough experience of being in these situations and are keeping our feet firmly on the ground," Gary told the Club's official website. "We have to treat each game very seriously. Training this week has been like any other; we aren't getting extra days off because we're doing well and the work we are putting in is as hard as ever. Nobody is getting carried away - it's just work as usual for us.

"For a club of Hartlepool's size they are doing brilliantly. Last season I think they were near the bottom end of the table but they have had a good spell and will come to our stadium full of confidence. We'll be going for maximum points though.

"I don't think our stadium is a nice place to come for teams this season. We haven't looked like losing here - even the two games we drew, we should have won comfortably because we missed chances. We have got our home form right and if we can start picking up a few more wins on the road, we will be there or there abouts come the end of the season.

"The lads are really bubbly at the training ground and cannot wait for the next match, which is down to the last few results we've had. The players are really enjoying their football at the minute."

'Robbo' netted his fifth of the season during last weekend's win over Wycombe Wanderers, which has given him bragging rights over one of his teammates...

"I've had a little word with Antony (Kay) at the start of the week - at the beginning of the season he kept asking me how many goals I had scored and saying that last year was a fluke, but he's a bit quieter now! I'm happy to have bagged a couple, but I'm concentrating on my performances.

"As the Gaffer has said to me, when it comes to the end of your career the only things that are recorded are the number of goals and assists you get! My job is to put the chances on a plate for the likes of Jordan, Theo, Novak and Robbie but I like to get a few myself if possible.

"You can tell how good the strikers here are by the number of goals we have managed already; Jordan has had a great start and Theo has scored a lot of goals too. However, we have goals from all around the pitch - Antony Kay has got a few already, as have Anthony Pilkington and myself."

Gary was awarded the Hargreaves Memorial Player of the Year Trophy at the conclusion of his first season as a Huddersfield Town player in May 2009, but he insists there is still more to come.

"I try and better myself every season - if you don't move, you get left behind. With no disrespect to the players last year, the people that Lee has brought in have made it a different kettle of fish here - they have more experience at this level and more quality. If I wasn't playing well, I would be straight out of the team and I have been working very hard since the start of the season to make sure that doesn't happen.

"This Club is a great place to be - it starts from the top with the Chairman and it has filtered down to the management and the players. We know exactly where we want to be and each tiny little detail is taken care of, down to the travel and the food, which is a credit to the Club. Everyone is backing the team and the management and hopefully we can achieve on the pitch.

"The top two is the aim - nobody is making a secret of that at this Club. We want to get out of this division; we are good enough and we think we have more ambition than any other club in the League. We want to go up and Saturday's game is another stepping stone."
