A predominantly young Town side dotted with a few older professionals dominated local minnows AFC Emley in terrible conditions at the Welfare Ground.

Striker Phil Jevons was the star of the show in the rain, netting a 55-minute hat-trick, with the others goals coming courtesy of skipper Michael Flynn, Keigan Parker and defender Leigh Franks.

Town finished the game with the entire under-18 side on the pitch and it was easy to see that the future is bright for the Club.

Development Coach Paul Stephenson took the young side for the game and deployed the Terriers in an orthodox 4-4-2 formation. Matt Glennon played in goal behind a back four of left-back Ridehalgh, centre-backs Harris and Franks and trialist right-back Thomas Harban. Jack Hunt and Academy scholar Aiden Chippendale occupied the wings with the experienced Michael Flynn and Ian Craney in central midfield, leaving Phil Jevons to partner Keigan Parker in attack.

Town, in their change strip of red and navy blue, started the game positively in the torrential downpour of rain but wasted the opportunity presented to them through a first minute corner.

The wind was firmly behind Stephenson's side in the first-half, which allowed the Town defence to hold their line on halfway. Skipper Michael Flynn was the first to try his luck at goal with a skidding long-range drive in the 9th minute, but home goalkeeper Jamie Green did well to hang onto the wet ball to his left side.

Following a succession of Town corners two minutes later Parker tried to bend the ball around the goalkeeper from outside the area, but sent his effort wide of the far post.

Town were on the attack again in the 12th minute, but Jevons bundled a back-post header from a right-wing Parker cross wide of goal due to heavy pressure from right-back Joice.

Good combination between strikers Jevons and Parker two minutes later led to the latter sending another cross to the back post, where winger Chippendale sent a back post header straight at the 'keeper.

GOAL - The pressure told after quarter of an hour when Phil Jevons netted his second goal of pre-season in as many games. The build-up started down the left side, with Academy scholar Chippendale firing the ball across the face of goal after getting the wrong side of his full-back. The cross fell to Parker at the back post, who intelligently turned a low pass back to his strike partner; Jevons sent one defender sprawling before placing the ball comprehensively past the custodian from around the penalty spot.

GOAL - Town netted a quick-fire second goal in the 18th minute, with Michael Flynn scoring a typical long-range effort. The midfielder received a lay-off from striker Jevons two yards outside the box before steadying himself and firing past Green into the bottom left corner of the goal.

The onslaught continued after the second, with Spencer Harris unlucky to see his header from a Craney corner deflected narrowly over the bar by the unwitting head of an Emley defender in the 21st minute. Soon after Craney almost scored directly from another corner, but the ball was cleared off the line by a desperate defender.

GOAL - The away side extended their lead through a third goal in the 25th minute and although Phil Jevons was the scorer once again, the goal owed a lot to positive work from the Academy's Aiden Chippendale. The flying left winger skipped past two Emley players during a mazy dribble on the flank before sending the ball across the box and although the home goalkeeper saved well from Keigan Parker at close range, 'Jevo' was on hand to tap home the rebound.

The Terriers' dominance continued as the first-half drew to a close, but Emley had their best chance of the stroke of 34th minutes when a wide free-kick from Sidebottom got caught in the wind and dropped just wide of the far post.

Chippendale impressed down the left side for Town throughout the half, whereas deep-lying midfielder Craney was dictating the tempo with a master class of composure on the ball and passing.

Emley winger Lee Hill nodded a tame header from a deep Joice cross straight into the hands of Glennon with four minutes of the half remaining, but in truth Town had breezed through the half.

The wind was battering the faces of the Town players as the second-half got underway, but it didn't take long for the fourth to go in.

GOAL - Keigan Parker scored his first pre-season goal in the 49th minute to put Town four goals ahead. An Emley defender misjudged the flight of right-back Harban's long pass towards Michael Flynn and the midfielder collected the ball before playing a pass to the Scottish striker, who was inside the area to the right of goal; Keigan steadied himself - sending a defender sliding past him - before calmly stroking the ball past the goalkeeper and into the far corner.

GOAL - Town made it 5-0 in the 55th minute, with Phil Jevons completing his hat-trick. Strike partner Parker started the move with a lovely back-heel on the right touchline, setting winger Hunt away; he advanced to the edge of the box before sending a lovely slide-rule pass into the path of Jevons, who cleverly lifted the ball over the sprawling goalkeeper and into the corner of the goal when eight yards out.

Jevons then sent a hard back post volley wide of goal in the 58th minute after the 'keeper flapped at a Chippendale corner.

Paul Stephenson started to make changes on the hour mark but Town's youngsters continued to boss possession and substitute Chris Atkinson forced the 'keeper into a decent save in the 67th minute after being played in by Flynn down the left side.

GOAL - Defender Leigh Franks had been a rock at the heart of the Town defence throughout the game and used his aerial prowess to good effect in the 69th minute to put his side six goals ahead. Substitute Ryan Watson played a short corner into the feet of Ian Craney and the midfielder's excellent cross into the box found the unmarked first-year professional, who powered a header to the left side of the goalkeeper and into the net.

Effectively, Town's entire under-18 side played the last 15 minutes of the game and faired very well against their older counterparts. Striker James Spencer fed fellow forward Shane Birtles a good pass with ten minutes remaining but Town's number 20 slid his placed shot wide of the far post before the lively Spencer set up midfielder Atkinson for a 20-yard shot four minutes later that the 'keeper parried to safety.

Academy stopper Allinson made a good save with three minutes remaining after Emley sub Thomas robbed a Town defender of the ball, getting down well to smother the low, skidding shot hit from inside the area.
