CLARK TAKING STRONG SQUAD TO CORBY

Posted on: Wed 15 Jul 2009

Lee Clark's Huddersfield Town squad will take to the pitch at Corby Town for their third pre-season friendly ahead of the 2009/10 this evening (kick-off 7.30pm).

Corby won the Premier Division of the Southern Premier League last season and will now play in the Conference North in the upcoming campaign.

The friendly came through an old acquaintance of Town's manager, as he explained to htafc.com today:

"Corby have just been promoted to the Conference North and their owner, Peter Mallinger, was a Director at Newcastle when the coaching staff and I were involved there. He had a spell at Kettering but he's now at Corby and he got in touch about a friendly.

"I've never been to their ground, but I am told that their facilities are to a decent standard and it is something a little bit different. As I have said, the early part of pre-season is all about fitness and this is a good opportunity for us at this stage.

"The distance isn't a problem - it's only a couple of hours on the bus, which we need to get used to given some of the journeys we have ahead this season!"

Clark is taking a full complement of first-team players with him to Northamptonshire for the game.

"Corby will give us a good test - we are looking forward to it. We took a real mixture of players to Gateshead and Wakefield, but we will take the senior boys to this game and some of them will play more than 45 minutes. As the game goes on, we will assess how long they do play.

"The game is still predominantly about fitness, but now we have got the first game out of the way we are getting back into it. We will look at all the aspects, from fitness to the football."

Lee also confirmed that one of the trialists - former Everton midfielder John Paul Kissock - could feature at the Rockingham Triangle.

"There will possibly be one trialist involved - JP Kissock. He will be involved in the squad, but I don't know whether we will use him or not."
