PELTIER TO BECOME LATEST SUMMER SIGNING

Posted on: Tue 30 Jun 2009

Huddersfield Town can today confirm that Lee Peltier is set to join the Club from Yeovil Town subject to a medical.

The 22-year old right-back will move to West Yorkshire on a three year deal that will see him stay at the Club until the summer of 2012.

Born in Aigburth, Merseyside, Peltier joined European giants Liverpool as an 11-year old following a brief spell at Tranmere Rovers and progressed through the youth structure at Anfield before making his first-team debut in October 2006, playing 74 minutes of a 4-3 Carling Cup victory over Reading.

He soon followed that up with 90 minutes in a Champions League match at Galatasaray before making a further 7 appearances during a loan spell at Championship side Hull City in March 2007.

Lee then joined League One Yeovil in July 2007 and made 23 appearances for the Glovers before the end of December, when his initial loan spell ended. He impressed in Somerset and spent a spell on trial at Glenn Roeder's Norwich City - where Town boss Lee Clark was Assistant Manager - before signing permanently for Yeovil for a 'small fee' in January 2008.

He has since made a further 54 appearances for the Glovers, scoring 1 goal, and finished the season as Vice Captain of the team under new manager Terry Skiverton. Lee won the Away Travel Club Player of the Year accolade for his performances in the 2008/09 campaign, finished as runner-up in the Green and White Supporters Club Player of the Year and came third in the Western Gazette Player of the Year category.

A pacey player who is a good crosser of the ball, Lee is aggressive in the challenge and cuts an athletic build at over six foot tall. Capable of playing in central midfield or at centre-back as well as in his preferred right-back slot, he is approaching 90 professional appearances in his career.

Town boss Lee Clark today told htafc.com that he is looking forward to working with Peltier:

"Lee is a player I know well; we had him on trial when I was assistant at Norwich City but we didn't have the finances to secure the deal. He played for Paul Stephenson in the reserve side there and we were impressed by him, so we have monitored him since his move to Yeovil.

"He is a fantastic athlete and is very accomplished on the ball, as you would expect given he was schooled at Liverpool.

"There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding whether or not we will get Martin Kelly and if so whether it will be before the start of the season and I felt it was necessary to bring in a permanent right-back anyway. Lee is another player who was being courted by clubs from the League above and others in this division, but we got the chance to talk to him and once we explained where we want to go as a Club it all fell into place.

"We are delighted to have Lee here - he will be a tremendous asset- he can also play as a holding midfield player or at centre-back - and Antony Kay is another versatile lad. These versatile players give me options.I am looking forward to working with Lee."

The first full interview with Lee will follow shortly!
