Lee Clark has today made his latest capture of the closed season by signing striker Theo Robinson from Championship side Watford for an undisclosed fee on a three year contract.
The 20-year old forward follows Antony Kay, Peter Clarke, fellow striker Robbie Simpson and Lee Peltier into the Club as Clark continues to shape his side for the upcoming 2009/10 season.
Robinson was a schoolboy at Stoke City before being picked up by the Hornets at the 2005 Football League exit trials and has made a name for himself through successful loan spells with Hereford United - scoring 16 goals in their League Two promotion campaign of 2007/08 - and League One Southend United, for whom he scored 9 goals in just 21 appearances last term.
A pacey player with genuine skill, Theo has scored 23 goals in his 61 career starts and has garnered interested from several other clubs.
Town boss Lee Clark told htafc.com that he is very happy with the blend of strikers he has at the Club:
"Theo has electric pace and likes to play on the shoulder of the last defender, so he will compliment Robbie Simpson very well. His determination really came across when I met him - he is focussed on becoming a proven goalscorer for this Club.
"We lost Danny Cadamarteri over the summer and we needed another explosive striker, which is exactly the type of player that Theo is - but he also has a good goalscoring record to go with it.
"I am very happy with the three new strikers we now have at the Club ready for the new season - Theo, Robbie Simpson and Lee Novak. They complement each other very well."
Clark described Robinson as having the 'killer instinct' that he wants from all of his strikers.
"I have been lucky enough to work with some of the best strikers in English football during my career and they all had the same mindset; they were not scared of missing chances. If they did miss one, they would make sure they were right back in the danger area again for the next chance. Last season our strikers were not in the danger area nearly enough but we now have forwards at the Club who will be in there to convert the chances every single time.
"Theo did ever so well at Southend United last season. Although he missed a good opportunity against us in our game with Southend towards the end of the season, I was still very impressed with his overall performance.
"He scored 16 goals for Hereford in League Two and 9 goals in 21 starts for Southend; I would hope that with the opportunities our team creates he can increase that goal ratio.
"He is still only 20 and is very hungry for success in his career. His goal ratio is around one every three games at the moment but he is still learning and we will work with him on the training ground to ensure he continues to improve. For all the ability he has now, there is a lot of scope for further development and that fits in with the Club's strategy of looking longer term as well as short term."
