Huddersfield Town's Commercial Director Sean Jarvis presented Honley Cricket Club with the 'Sports Team of the Year' accolade at last night's Examiner Community Awards 2009.
The awards, which were held at the Galpharm Stadium, aim to salute Huddersfield's local heroes and Town aptly backed the sports team award, which went to Honley due to their league and cup domination stemming back to 2005. Other contenders for the award were Netherton Conservative Club bowling team and Heywood Irish Centre Football Club.
Honley Club Captain Robert Moore told the Examiner: "We had a great year last year though we've had a slower start to this season. But we shall keep striving for success.
"We are over the moon with this award. There were two remarkable teams competing for the same category so we are thrilled."
Commercial Director Jarvis told htafc.com that the Club was happy to support this event:
"We pride ourselves on being a community club and we were delighted to help the Examiner celebrate the heroes from the Huddersfield area. We will always support the local community that does so much to support us.
"All three sports clubs in the category have achieved a great deal over the last year but Honley were deserved winners. They were a great set of lads and congratulations to them from everyone at the football club.
"I would also like to give a special mention to lifelong Town fan Laurie Minney, who won the 'Sevices to the Community' award; he has contributed a vast amount to local scouting in the area over the last fifty years and he fully deserved his special evening."
