TOWN TRAVEL TO SOUTHEND ON OPENING DAY

Posted on: Wed 17 Jun 2009

The 2009/10 League One fixture list has been confirmed this morning and Town face a trip to Southend United on the opening day of the season.

After two successive seasons where Town drew opening day games at home, Lee Clark's side will travel to Roots Hall to kick off their 2009/10 League One campaign on Saturday 8th August, kick-off 3pm - meaning Town new boy Peter Clarke will not have to wait long to return to his former club after his summer move to West Yorkshire.

This means that Chairman Dean Hoyle, Commercial Director Sean Jarvis and Matchday Announcer Paul Ramsden have around 232 miles to cycle in aid of Keep It Up - click HERE to support them now!

The Terriers have a traditionally good/bad record against the Shrimpers - winning 14 of the previous 29 encounters between the two sides, compared to Southend's nine wins and six draws.

That away journey is quickly followed by Town's Carling Cup First Round clash with Stockport County at the Galpharm Stadium on Tuesday August 11th, kick-off 7.45pm before Clark's men host Southampton in their first home League game of the season the following Saturday. That game is closely followed by a midweek home clash with Brighton on August 18th, giving Town three home games in the space of a week.

Town's first local derby against Leeds United falls on Saturday December 5th at Elland Road before the return game at the Galpharm Stadium on Saturday February 27th.

The Terriers face another trip to Carlisle on Boxing Day, whereas fans face a long trip to Exeter City on the final day of the season.
