LOAN WATCH - CONTRASTING WEEKENDS FOR NOVAK & JEVONS
Town strikers Lee Novak and Phil Jevons have experienced contrasting fortunes for their respective loan clubs over the weekend.
20-year old forward Novak helped Gateshead FC to gain their second promotion in consecutive years as they defeated AFC Telford at the International Stadium in the Blue Square North Play-Off Final thanks to a late Wayne Phillips goal. A bumper crowd of 4,121 watched on as loanee Novak played all 90 minutes of the game, with his best moment being a superb diagonal pass that setup teammate Craig Baxter for a shot on the half-hour mark.
Novak has finished as the top scorer in the Blue Square North with 28 goals - no mean feat given that he started the season as a member of the Newcastle Blue Star team in the Northern Premier League. He will now join up with his new Huddersfield Town teammates when Lee Clark's first team return for their first day of pre-season training on June 29th.
Meanwhile, Jevons has a less enjoyable weekend - he was part of the Bury team that were defeated by Shrewsbury Town in the League Two Play-Off Semi-Finals following a tense penalty shootout. Jevons wasn't on the pitch for the shootout as he was taken off in the 71st minute, but he did have a penalty saved by Shrewsbury custodian Luke Daniels on the half-hour mark. Incidentally, former Town junior Danny Racchi also had a penalty saved by Daniels in the shootout.
Jevo's loan spell with the Shakers has now come to an end and in total he netted two goals in nine appearances for the League Two club.
