BOOTHY: "I THINK WE DESERVED IT"

Posted on: Sat 18 Apr 2009

Legendary striker Andy Booth has told htafc.com that Town deserved all three points following the tremendous comeback at Walsall this afternoon.

The 35-year old netted a late first-half brace to restore parity for the Terriers before a second-half strike from Martin Kelly gave the side all three points at the Banks's Stadium.

"We had a very poor start - we never got out of the blocks and after half an hour we could have been four goals down," Andy admitted to the Club's official website. "To come in at half time with the score at 2-2 was unbelievable really and I'm glad I wasn't in their dressing room!"

Booth was the beneficiary of a goalkeeping slip-up for his first goal, but wasn't too bothered about how the goal crept over the line!

"My first goal was like a rocket wasn't it? I was due a slip-up from a goalkeeper and they are always nice to see, but it was a great cross from Jim for my second that set it all up for us.

"We knew that we could do a lot better and if we could step it up by ten percent, we had a really good chance of winning the game. We decided to match their system man for man and I thought the midfielders did fantastically; Flynny made a real impact as a sub whereas Jim, Tom and Robbo all did well. In the end, I think we deserved the win - we dug in well.

"Martin Kelly looks like a very good player and it would be nice to have him here next season, but I think Rafael Benitez will have a big say in that. He is definitely one to watch and he will be in the Premiership in next to no time."

Booth also indicated that for the moment, he is concentrating on his football in the final two games of the season rather than his long-term future.

"I will finish off the season and we will see what happens then. I have got three goals in the last two goals and it is always nice to score, although I have always believed that the end result is the most important thing. We will make a decision on my future soon."
