EASTY: "IT WAS AN EASY DECISION"

Posted on: Thu 05 Mar 2009

Simon Eastwood's desire to stay at Huddersfield Town made his decision to sign a new deal an easy one, he told htafc.com.

The 19-year old custodian was set to be out of contract in the summer but manager Lee Clark has secured the future of the Luton-born shot-stopper to the Club until the summer of 2011, with Town having an option on a further year.

"It was an easy decision for me to be fair," Simon said of his decision to sign a new deal. "I always wanted to stay here at Huddersfield because I know the Club is going places; we are the Club to be at. We have a new manager in and everything seems to be going well.

"I'm glad to have signed my contract. This Club is going places and hopefully I can help us to get where we want to be."

Simon faces tough competition for the number one shirt at the Club, with fellow goalkeepers Alex Smithies and Matt Glennon on the books.

"My next aim is to make my debut for Town. The recent loan spell was really good for me in terms of confidence and I feel that when I am called upon to make that step up, I will be ready.

"I think the competition for the goalkeeper's shirt here is a good thing. Alex and Matty are both great 'keepers and it will be hard for me, but it's good to have that competition as it will keep everyone on their toes. It is a good challenge for me.

"The best attribute of my game is my shot-stopping, but I am constantly trying to improve my all-round ability - just like the other two goalkeepers here. We all push each other hard to get better and I enjoy working with them. I'm delighted to see Alex do so well for the first team recently.

"We have all worked with Vaughany for the last three or four years and it's been really good. We can see he's getting the best out of Alex and hopefully he will get the best out of me now. Matty is a help too; he has been there and done it and if me or Alex are struggling with something, he is always happy to help us out.

"Hopefully I will get my chance in first-team soon and when I do, I want to take it. It's going to be hard to get Alex out of the team as he is doing really well at the moment, but when my chance comes I want to emulate him."
