FIFA TO RULE ON TEHOUE CLEARANCE

Posted on: Fri 27 Feb 2009

The availability of Town's French striker Jonathan Tehoue is being decided by FIFA after Club officials explained a contractual dispute surrounding the player.

A long-standing disagreement between Tehoue and his former club Konyaspor in Turkey will be ruled upon by international football's governing body, with the outcome determining whether Town can get international clearance for him to play.

Chief Executive Nigel Clibbens explained the complex situation to htafc.com:

"The dispute between Jonathan and his former Club was not brought to the Club's attention throughout his trial or during the process of signing him, which clearly disappoints us. Jonathan joined the Club and had his trial on the basis of him being a free agent and being immediately available. We uncovered the situation when applying for his international clearance from Turkey.

"Since then we have been working very hard with the help of our own FA to speed the decision-making process but it is now out of our control and we can only watch and wait for FIFA.

"It could take FIFA up to sixty days to rule on the legal wrangling between officials from Konyaspor and the player's representatives, but the speed at which a resolution can be reached will clearly affect his future here. If the dispute is resolved quickly Jonathan could still feature for the Club.

"We hope it is settled quickly, as the player cannot continue his career while the dispute still exists. We are disappointed at the situation as Jonathan could be a real asset to the Club and it is a great shame that the player is unavailable given the amount of time Lee Clark and his team have invested in getting him fit.

"Despite the extended time Jonathan has been at the Club, we have incurred no cost."

htafc.com will bring any further updates on Jonathan's situation as and when they become available.
