HOYLE: "IT'S A DIFFERENT APPROACH"

Posted on: Wed 11 Mar 2009

htafc.com spoke to Chairman-elect Dean Hoyle to find out why he has chosen Lee Clark as the new manager of Huddersfield Town and he admitted that he has opted for a different approach in making this appointment.

Few people would have put former Norwich City Assistant Manager Clark in the early running for the Galpharm Stadium hotseat following the departure of Stan Ternent in early November but Hoyle told the Club's official website that the 36-year old is exactly the kind of person he wanted for the job.

"Some fans may look at the appointment of Lee and worry about young age and his perceived lack of experience and I suppose in that sense it is a gamble for the Club as he has no track record as a manager, but he is exactly what I was looking for and he will be surrounded by experience.

"People have to understand that although we have enjoyed some short-term success, it is fair to say that the last twenty years have not gone according to plan for Huddersfield Town. We needed to try something different with this managerial appointment as opting for experience has not worked.

"Every manager who is highly regarded in football today needed a break somewhere to get his career underway and I firmly believe that Lee is the man we were looking for.

"He definitely embraces what we want to achieve here at Huddersfield Town. I was looking for a young and innovative manager and he is very keen on the implementation of new ideas and techniques.

"Lee played a good, quick passing style of football throughout his playing career and he will carry that into management - that is how he wants his team to play. He also wants his team to be as fit and as organised as possible.

"He believes that the Club should move forward as one unit, from top to bottom and perhaps most importantly, he is a born winner. He will look at all aspects of the Club from the Academy to the scouting and recruitment of players, where he will implement a new policy to hopefully unearth some future gems."

Hoyle also stressed that the appointment of Clark's backroom staff was just as important as the appointment of the manager.

"I cannot stress enough the importance of the managerial team. Lee is the leader, but he is only as good as his coaching staff and I am delighted that he is backed up by a duo that has worked at the pinnacle of their respective professions.

"Derek Fazackerley has worked in the Champions League, Premiership and for the England national team and has a level of experience and knowledge comparable with any other coach in England today and he will be instrumental as First Team Coach alongside Lee.

"A lot of people will be intrigued by the appointment of Steve Black as Performance Coach and he brings a different aspect to the Club. In order to play the style of football that Lee wants from his team, they will have to be extremely fit and Lee believes that Steve will bring a new dimension to the Club. As well as fitness coaching, Steve is an adept psychologist and he will instil confidence into the players here.

"Nigel Clibbens and I will work closely with the new managerial team and together we will get it right."
