Matt Glennon has told htafc.com that a top ten spot has to be the aim for the team by the time the League One season enters the New Year.

The big custodian and his teammates were back in training this morning after a rare free weekend and told the Club's official website that he is raring to go against Walsall this weekend.

"The rest over the weekend was good, given that we have played some big games recently," Matty admitted. "There have been some massive highs and lows recently - we've gone from winning at Leeds and Brighton to losing at home last Tuesday. We've got a home game at the weekend and we really need to win it.

"It's been the story of the season really - we've done well in the big games and lost some really stupid ones. We have let ourselves down on too many occasions and we have to gain some consistency, otherwise it will not be a good season."

Town, who currently sit 14th in the table, have five League One games during December and the 30-year old admitted that it's an important period in the season.

"I think that we have to be in the top ten after Christmas and we cannot be a million miles away from the top six. We're not that far away now, but we have to win a few of our games over December.

"We're out of all the cups, so it is just a case of focussing on one League game at a time - starting with Walsall this weekend."

The weekend visit of the Saddlers will see Glennon in direct confrontation with an old friend.

"I've known (Michael) Ricketts for a long time as I was at Bolton with him; he was playing for England at that point. I know he's been struggling with fitness for the last couple of years but he is a good, strong, fast player and on his day he is very hard to stop. However, we've got our own two big lads - Andy Butler and Nathan Clarke - who have stopped a lot of good strikers from playing recently, so I think we will be alright."

Chairman-elect Dean Hoyle's search for a new manager is ongoing, but Glennon stressed that the players are focussed on winning games.

"There's not a load of talk, but on the odd day the lads will come in to training and somebody will mention that another name has been mentioned on a website or in the papers. I'm waiting for Jose Mourinho to leave Inter - you never know!

"It doesn't really affect you as a player, because you are primarily playing for the Club and yourself. I'm sure that whoever eventually comes in will have already seen us play, so you just have to keep putting performances in."
