BERRETT: "IT COULD BE THE TURNING POINT"
James Berrett has told htafc.com that Saturday's derby-day win at Leeds United could prove to be the turning point in Town's season.
The 19-year old midfielder made his first League start of the season at Elland Road as a centre-back and turned in a brilliant performance as Town recorded their first victory in Leeds since Boxing Day of 1983.
"Gerry pulled me over in training and asked me how I would feel about playing as sweeper," James explained to the Club's official website. "I really wanted to be involved in the Leeds game, so I was always going to say yes! I've played at centre-back in one or two reserve games before but I'd never really played as sweeper before; however, I was comfortable there. I'm still a central midfielder - I feel that is my best position - but I'm happy to be playing anywhere.
"It was a pretty special game. The atmosphere was really loud when we came out of the tunnel and our fans were absolutely brilliant throughout the game.
"Sometimes derby games get a bit scrappy, but I thought it was a good game. I thought we passed the ball well and having watched the video together since, we actually had more of the ball than we thought we did. We were all very pleased to win."
Playing in his new role, Berrett subdued Leeds' Argentinean striker Luciano Becchio - a striker who has put many League One defenders to the sword this season.
"He's a good player and he's scored a few goals this year, so it was a good challenge for me," James continued. "I thought I did ok. He's a strong lad, but I knew that as long as he was in front of me and not in behind me he couldn't hurt us."
Berrett and his teammates will now be looking to build on that win at Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.
"The Leeds game could be the big turning point for us. The Cup defeat against Port Vale was very disappointing having been by far the better side for 80 minutes, but Leeds was amazing. It's all well and good saying that though - now we need to get a few wins under our belts, starting now."
