HOYLE: "BEATING THEM AT THEIR OWN GROUND WAS FANTASTIC."
Chairman-elect and lifelong Town fan Dean Hoyle spoke to htafc.com about the Club's historic victory over Leeds United at the weekend.
Town mounted a memorable comeback at Elland Road on Saturday with two second half goals from Joe Skarz and Michael Collins to beat United on their own patch.
It was a terrific day for anyone with blue and white flowing through their veins, particularly Hoyle who admitted the last few weeks at the Club have been difficult.
"It was a fantastic victory because they are Leeds United and it is always brilliant to put one over on them. It was a high quality game, both sides gave their all and it wasn't a typical derby in the sense that it was a gritty, edgy affair. We went for it and showed some real quality at times and we came out on top which is what counted.
"I am a Town fan and I know these are the games that matter. Beating them on their own ground was fantastic and I am glad I was amongst the fans when it happened. The celebration when Collins scored is definitely up there amongst my best memories of being a Town fan.
"Our goals came at the right time and were very well worked, particularly the first because they didn't touch the ball. Defensively we were strong too and they just couldn't break us down against after they scored early on. All in all, it was a quality game, a quality day and a quality result.
"It was exactly what everyone wanted. It has been a tough few weeks at the Club with the departure of Stan Ternent and the FA Cup defeat to Port Vale, but this result has given everyone a big lift."
Hoyle also spoke to us about the managerial situation and said the search to find a permanent replacement for Ternent was ongoing but the duo which orchestrated Saturday's win, caretaker boss Gerry Murphy and assistant Graham Mitchell, will remain in place for as long as is necessary.
"The search for a manager is ongoing but we will not rush things. The faith we've got in Gerry and Mitch to hold the fort was more than repaid on Saturday. I've already said that it may take a while to make the right appointment, but I know what I want in a manager and will appoint the right man."
