Town striker Keigan Parker has told htafc.com he was delighted to open his Town scoring account and give the Club all three points against visitors Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.

The 26-year old Scotsman sent a left-foot curler past Crewe goalkeeper Steve Collis in the 88th minute of Saturday's game at the Galpharm Stadium to secure a second home league win of the season for Stan Ternent's side and Keigan told the Club's official website that he felt it was a deserved victory.

"I thought that we dominated most of the first-half and we looked pretty comfortable after the opening two goals," the Scotsman explained. "However, they got the goal and they pressured us a bit in the second-half, eventually getting the equaliser. They broke away a few times, but I thought we showed good spirit and I was pleased to get the winning goal - more so for the team than personally, because we need to get wins to get us up the League where we should be.

"A couple of times this season, we have got early goals and then taken our foot off the gas. If we had got the third goal at 2-0 that would have been it, but they took confidence from their goal just before half-time.

"We need to learn how to kill teams off, because if we do we will start to record more wins. It was a bit scrappy in the end, but even the great teams have to win scrappily occasionally."

Keigan's late winner was his first for the Club and first goal since his strike in the 2006/07 Play-Off final for former club Blackpool.

"It had been a long time since I've scored as I didn't play much last season and hopefully I can kick on from that now and get some more goals. I'm very much a confidence player and if I'm scoring goals, my all-round game is generally better as well.

"Gary Roberts played a good ball into me out wide and I took a decent touch across my body, so I tried to cut it across the goal and thankfully it sailed into the top corner. I could see it all the way, but when you haven't scored for a while you half expect it to hit the bar or the post and come back out; thankfully it curled at the last minute and it's always a great feeling when you score.

"I was just pointing at the boys in the dugout, as I've been getting a bit of stick off them as I hadn't scored. To be fair to them though, they were building me up before the game - trying to give me a bit of confidence before I went out. As I said, it's more pleasing because it helped the team to a win. The boys want me to do well because if I'm scoring, the team will do well.

"It's great to get a goal for my own confidence. I've not played too many games this season and getting suspended is a bit annoying, but hopefully I can get back into the team for the Leeds match as they are the games you want to play in. Obviously it's a bit of a blow for me not to play in the FA Cup, but hopefully the boys can get a result."

Parker's afternoon was spoiled in added time when he was given his marching orders by referee Drysdale for a second bookable offence, meaning he will now miss Town's FA Cup clash with League Two Port Vale at the Galpharm Stadium on Saturday.

"A few of the boys have complained about the ref - about the way in which he spoke to the players," he continued. "I went in, but I tried to pull out of the challenge in case I caught him late and the ball bounced and hit my hand. He then gave me the red card."

Despite Town's indifferent start to the Centenary season, Keigan's experience tells him that there is still every chance that the Terriers will achieve promotion come the end of the season.

"I was in a similar situation at Blackpool two seasons ago when we got promoted. In the first eleven games, I think we only took four points and then we got a win up at Carlisle in a similarly scrappy fashion to our win over Crewe. From that point, we never looked back and we even ran Nottingham Forest close for second. If we win four or five games in a row now we will probably be in the top ten."
