Town's Chairman-elect Dean Hoyle has today thanked the fans for the support they are showing the Club.

Last weekend's League One game against Leicester City at the Galpharm Stadium may not have ended with the result that Town fans wanted, but Hoyle told htafc.com that the financial backing from the fanbase was brilliant.

"I think that results on the pitch are not going our way, but commercially we are making great strides," Dean explained. "Looking at the programmes, we are selling a bigger percentage now, and I think programmes make a big difference to the Club. I think sales of Golden Gamble must be one of the highest for percentages of tickets sold in the League, which is of great credit to not just the supporters but also to our dedicated sellers."

Despite the Club's impressive performance commercially, the Card Factory owner has urged fans to keep up their support of the Club despite the current financial climate.

"'I'd urge the supporters to try and back the 'On the Move' lottery draw as best they can. It's getting more difficult because pubs and clubs are closing down and that was our main point of sale.

"It's quite difficult for the Commercial Department, but we do need businesses to get around us and help us drag the Club forward at this difficult time. Supporters can take us so far, but we need to engage businesses and make them feel like part of our family.

"To be honest, the credit crunch is worrying. To see the Prime Minister of Iceland - a country!- come out and warn people that they could go bankrupt, it will get people worried. But at the same time, we can't buy players with fresh air - we need people to support us and get behind us. It's not easy when the team aren't doing well, but it will come right.

"People are worried about their savings and leisure gets hit. I do believe that the £100 season ticket offer was a godsend, as hopefully those supporters will see that we've tried to help them out and do likewise for us now."

Hoyle did stress that the most important factor at the Club is results on the pitch and he thanked fans for their tremendous vocal backing against the Foxes on Saturday.

"I was really pleased with the backing on Saturday. When we sing, it makes a big difference and I think you could see that from the way the team came back into the game against Leicester.

"At the end of the day, we need a winning team. When people are depressed and are worried about their money situation, a football club can be a saving grace - look at Hull as an example.

"For as long as I can remember, Hull has been a deprived area but just look at how that City is hanging onto their football club at the moment. They are a ray of light and as the team does well, the city increases its profile and there is more of a feel-good factor.

"The biggest brands in Huddersfield are the football and rugby clubs. If those two brands are performing, it helps the town drive forward.

"We don't want to go back to the days of Barry Rubery, but we need to instil a real work ethic and get promotion. It's a real balancing act and we have to make sure that once we get promotion, we can sustain Championship football. It's a difficult task, but I'm up for the challenge.

"I think the next six games are all winnable. It's probably going to be a hard winter for a lot of our supporters, but I'm hoping that the football club can give them that little bit of cheer."

Along with several members of Town's backroom staff, Hoyle is now making his way up to the Balfour Webnet Darlington Arena for tonight's Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash with Darlington.

"Looking at it financially, we will earn zero up until the final," Dean said on the conversation. "With my fan-head on, we are six games away from Wembley! That would be good for our fans and good for the town, but we are a long way from there and we need a result tonight. I believe that the League is more important, but a good Cup run would be good for everyone."
