Huddersfield Town will be wearing black armbands this evening in remembrance of Adrian Sudbury who recently died of leukaemia.
The Huddersfield Examiner journalist was a campaigner who petitioned Downing Street calling for better awareness of bone marrow donation and spent the final few months of his life campaigning to help other sufferers.
He raised the profile of bone marrow donation for others to have a chance of life and through his campaign he met the Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
As a mark of respect Town players will be wearing black armbands for the Carling Cup Second Round game against Sheffield United at the Galpharm Stadium (kick-off 7.45pm).
50p of each matchday programme sold will be donated the Anthony Nolan Trust who match leukaemia sufferers with donors.
"Adrian was an inspiration to a great many people and the Club is wearing black armbands out of respect for him and the work he did in raising the profile of donors for leukaemia sufferers through Anthony Nolan Trust," said a club spokesman.
"Sudders' quest to bring into the public eye the need for donors and raise greater awareness of the illness captured hearts and imaginations locally and nationally and if we can supplement what he did in any way that's a positive thing."
