htafc.com talked to Stan Ternent about new loan signing Liam Dickinson today - a player the Gaffer thinks is ideal for the team.
The former Stockport County hitman has joined Town on a month's loan from Championship side Derby County - the team where Ternent served as Assistant Manager to Paul Jewell last season.
"I spoke to Paul (Jewell) and I knew he was bringing a few players in and it's a big step up for Liam from where he has been to the Championship," the Gaffer explained. "I've been on with it for a while and I actually asked when he first made the move, but Paul now thinks it would be a good idea for him to come and play for us.
"I think it's an excellent idea, because I have to look after Boothy and he hasn't trained at all so far this week. Boothy is 'Mr. Huddersfield' and is a fantastic player but I do need cover for him and Liam becoming available is ideal for us.
"Paul knows I'll look after him and I'll teach him; I appreciate the favour. Liam is a £750,000 footballer and he'll certainly go on to be a very, very good player. He's still only relatively young and this is a step up from his experiences with Stockport in League Two, so it's a good challenge for him. We'll make him very welcome here as we have a fantastic set of lads and it can only be good for us.
"The move is for one month, but obviously I would like to keep him for longer than that because he's a proven goalscorer and he'll do well for us. However, his club is Derby; we'll have to see what happens - if Liam and Paul are up for it, we could extend it. One step at a time.
"He'll play some part in the game on Saturday, although I'm not sure to what extent at this point. If I have Andy and Liam available, it has to be better for Huddersfield Town.
"If we finish up the same way as he did at Stockport last season we'll be happy! Liam needs to be playing first-team matches in Stadiums like ours with big crowds. There is a high expectation level at the Club and he should enjoy that."
Stan mentioned Andy Booth in comparison to Liam on a few occasions - are they similar players?
"I don't think many people are as good as Andy in the air, where he is exceptional, and with his experience he is very important to the team. However, Liam is different - he is a bit more mobile that Boothy but he can hold it up too. He's a handful."
Dickinson is Ternent's tenth signing as Huddersfield Town boss, but there is still another 12 day s until the transfer window closes.
"The idea is to have competition for places, as we have to guard against complacency. We won't get that here. Also, you have to guard against loss of form and suspension. With the expectation level here, every game we play is like a cup final and we have to perform.
"From a managerial point of view, that creates its own problem as you can only play 11 players. Keeping everyone happy isn't easy as everyone has an ambition to play, but it's my job to play what I consider to be my best team. That's only my opinion, but at the moment that's the one that matters."
