LUCKETTI: "WE WANT TO KEEP IMPROVING"

Posted on: Wed 13 Aug 2008

htafc.com talked to Town Captain Chris Lucketti this morning following last night's comprehensive 4-0 Carling Cup victory over Bradford City and he explained that Stan Ternent's half-time instructions were key to the second-half improvement.

The scores were level going into the interval, but as the skipper explained an increase in the pace of the game proved to be the difference.

"We were delighted with our performance and it was great to get our first win of the season, especially against our local rivals," Chris explained.

"The Gaffer just wanted us to increase the tempo and speed the game up a little bit - make it all one or two touches. When Worthy (Jon Worthington) got the goal, it was just the right time and it settled us down a bit.

"All four were good goals, but Robbie's free-kick was fantastic. He should be proud of that goal. Keeping clean sheets is the perfect recipe for success and we were happy with that.

"Our main focus and priority this season is the League, but it's always nice to have a good Cup run. It's good for the Club, good for the fans and good for us as well.

"Our fans were very vocal tonight and they certainly played their part; I'm glad they enjoyed it."

The former Sheffield United man is forming a good partnership with fellow new signing Andy Butler at centre-half - one that the Captain can only see improving with time.

"Andy is a good player. We got on well and read each other's game well, but it always takes four or five games for any partnership to settle down. However, so far so good! I played with a lad called Paul Butler a few years ago and so I'm used to hearing the 'Butler' call - it's nice to be back alongside one again!"

Next up for Lucketti and co is a trip to Colchester United's new Weston Homes Community Stadium on Saturday.

"Obviously, it's Colchester's first game in their new Stadium and we're expecting a tough game. We will prepare right and look forward to going down there and performing like we did tonight. I think it will be a different type of game to last night, but we improved from Stockport against Bradford and we have to aim to improve again."
