HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 1 ARSENAL 2
The Herbert Chapman Trophy was won for the first time this evening by Arsenal. But the Premiership side did not have it all their own way as a battling and industrious Town fought well against their classy London opponents. Indeed, Town scored first through James Berrett but Watt equalised and Barazite put the game out of reach with three minutes remaining.
The visitors crafted the first opportunity on 4 minutes when Carlos Vela was played through by former Cardiff City youngster Aaron Ramsey. The Mexican got to the ball before keeper Glennon who retreated back to his line and made a good stop after readjusting.
Town crafted their first opportunity moments later when Cadamarteri picked up the ball down the left flank and laid it back to Collins who stormed into the area and saw his effort ricochet into the path of Cads who had his effort charged down by Justin Hoyte.
New signing Roberts went even closer moments later when he received the ball on the edge of the area and hooked a shot which Fabianski parried to Beckett who was a shade off side with his follow-up effort.
Roberts tried his luck from distance again on 8 minutes when, after good pressure from Goodwin, he hit a well-struck, first-time effort that had Fabianski scrambling across his line, but the keeper did well to readjust mid-air and keep out the Town man's shot.
On 10 minutes Walcott had an effort from distance which never troubled Matt Glennon's goal.
Soon after, a great ball into the box by the by Unsworth just evaded everyone and Fabianski pounced to smother the danger.
On 16 minutes Beckett found himself one-on-one with Fabianski but he could not out-pace Djourou or Gavin Hoyte who got back to tackle the Town striker.
Walcott found himself through on goal once again on 22 minutes when he was played through by Randall but the England international shot wide.
Carlos Vela warmed the palms of Glennnon midway through the half when he received the ball from Randall but shot straight at the Town stopper from outside the area.
Glennon was involved again moments later when Henri Lansbury shot from distance but his low weak effort never troubled the keeper.
Town should have been fired into the lead by captain Chris Lucketti after a great Roberts free-kick was whipped into the area but his header was just wide.
This signalled a good bit of pressure from Town but they were always susceptible to a quick Arsenal the break which was aptly illustrated on 40 minutes but Butler got back to make a superb tackle.
On 43 minutes Walcott showed his blistering pace once again and forced a brilliant save from Matt Glennon. The Town stopper made another save as the ball fell back to Theo and, on the slide Lansbury blasted over.
