The search for the new 'Town Idol' concluded ahead of last weekend's friendly against Sheffield United at the Galpharm Stadium when Martin Jones was unveiled as the new pitch side announcer.

Jones (pictured right), 46, made his Galpharm bow as he took up the microphone for the pre-season game and will become the new voice of Huddersfield Town matchdays.

A worker for the Ministry of Justice, Jones was born in South Wales but moved to Huddersfield in 1981 - at which time he became a Town fan, regularly bringing his son to matches at Leeds Road.

He is a familiar face at Battyeford Football Club events as the MC and you may also recognise Martin's voice from the annual Mirfield Show.

Martin will take up regular duty as the pitch side announcer throughout the season, but the Club has also taken on a stand-in - 38 year old Paul Ramsden.

With Jones on holiday for the first two competitive home games against Stockport and Bradford, Paul will take up the role. Born and bred in Huddersfield, he is a third generation Town fan who had his first season ticket back in 1977. Currently Tog 24's Sales Manager, he has no previous experience in this field but impressed club officials during the audition process.

Town's Director of Business Development Sean Jarvis paid tribute to the two winners earlier today.

"I'd like to go on record and thank everybody who applied to be the next 'Town Idol'; the calibre of applicants was very high," Sean explained.

"Both Martin and Paul showed real expertise in the role during auditions held at the Stadium and once they have become used to their new surroundings, I expect both will be a great success and very popular with our fans."
