PRE-SEASON DATE WITH BLADES AT THE GALPHARM
Huddersfield Town have today confirmed a pre-season friendly against Championship outfit Sheffield United at the Galpharm Stadium on Saturday 2nd August, kick-off 12pm.
This fixture against the South Yorkshire side is the third pre-season fixture to be confirmed, following the news of the big pre-season game against Arsenal at the Galpharm on August 6th and our trip to Bury on July 19th.
Ticket information on this game will be announced on htafc.com and via local press shortly.
This fixture may also see former Town striker Jon Stead make a first return to the Galpharm Stadium since his move away from the Club in February 2004.
United finished 9th in the Championship in the 06/07 season after a great run under manager Kevin Blackwell; the former Town goalkeeper replaced former boss Bryan Robson in February and his new charges stormed up the table, narrowly missing out on the Play-Offs.
Town manager Stan Ternent was the driving force behind this friendly and told htafc.com:
"I wanted to play a game on the pitch. Other than the Arsenal game, there was nothing else confirmed when I arrived and so I've arranged the pre-season friendly at Bury and now this game. There will hopefully be a few new faces on board as well as the retained players and I didn't want the fans to have to travel too far.
"It will be an excellent test for us the week before the start of the season. I spoke to 'Blacky', who I know very well, Ann (Hough) sorted out the Police and that's how it came about."
Based on the three confirmed pre-season games, it looks like a very competitive build-up to the 08/09 campaign for Town - something that Stan is a big fan of.
"I like competitive games," he admitted. "It is important to play competitive games but equally important to come through those without any injuries; you have to strike that balance. We have five and a half weeks of pre-season and by August 9th we will be ready."
