BOOTHY: "IT'S GOING TO BE A GOOD YEAR."
Town legend Andy Booth has this afternoon extended his stay at the Galpharm Stadium by 12 months. After chatting with Boothy after this morning's press conference, new boss San Ternent was keen to sign the 33-year-old striker for another year.
Boothy, whose contract was due to run out this summer, said he was 'delighted' to be at his hometown Club for another season and added: "It's a great time to sign.
"I'm delighted because there's a lot happening at the Club. We've got a new manager, it's the Centenary year and there's also a new Chairman-to-be coming in, so it's very pleasing and everyone should be looking forward to next year. Yes, it's the Centenary year, but it looks as though it's going to be a good year on the football pitch too.
"I've been friends with Ronnie (Jepson) since I started playing football. I think Ronnie helped me a lot when I was a young lad, we made a great partnership and it's great to see him back at the Club. I know what he's like and deep down he's a big Huddersfield Town supporter. I know he will want to do well for this football club.
"I've never worked with Stan (Ternent) before but I spoke to him and he's got some great ideas. Obviously he's the right man for the job and I'm looking forward to working with him."
Town vice chairman Andrew Watson has compared Ternent's methods with those of Neil Warnock, a style Boothy thrived under.
"Playing under Neil Warnock were some of the best days of my career," he said. "We had some great times and we got some great results on the pitch and if we can bring them back it will be fantastic."
On the fans and the season ticket campaign, Boothy said: "The fans have always been fantastic to me and it can only help if you are playing in front of a big crowd every other weekend. If we can get ten or 15 thousand out there next year, it helps the players and the Club."
