PAGE HANDED CAPTAINCY

Posted on: Fri 04 Apr 2008

Town Caretaker Manager Gerry Murphy has informed htafc.com that he has handed experienced defender Robert Page (pictured) the Captaincy for the remaining six games of the 2007/08 season, starting with tomorrow's Yorkshire derby against Doncaster Rovers at the Galpharm Stadium.

Murphy explained his decision: "The team-sheet might look a bit different on Saturday and we may change the way in which we play. One thing I have changed is the Captaincy. I had a long talk with Jonathan Worthington and I just feel he is a young lad with a lot on his shoulders and given the season he has had we both feel it would be better if he could simply concentrate on his football. Given that, I've handed the Captaincy for the remaining games to Robert Page.

"Robert Page is a very vocal and experienced player who pulls people around him. He has been doing it on the training ground all week. I've overseen Jonathan's career ever since he joined the Academy at a very young age and I know how he plays; the Jon we've all seen for the first-team this season is not the one I know. I hope this decision will help him get back to his top level and I also hope that it will show the other players that if decisions have to be made, I am not afraid to make them."
