Danny Schofield has requested to leave Huddersfield Town. The 27-year-old has asked for a clean slate in his football career after nine years at the Galpharm Stadium.

The Doncaster-based midfielder joined Town in 1998 from non-League Brodsworth and soon established himself in the side with his quick feet and eye for goal.

Currently Town's longest serving player (in one spell), he was voted into the top 100 favourite players of all time by supporters - The Fans' Favourites.

After over 280 appearances for Town, scoring 45 goals, Schofield has had his name circulated by the Club with a view to leave at the end of the season, as Town boss Andy Ritchie explains:

"Danny has asked to leave the Club for personal reasons and because he wants a clean slate. He has spoken with his family and has come to the conclusion that this is the best move for him and we will do all we can to help him.

"It is not a transfer request; he just feels he needs a new challenge. We have circulated his name and he may go out on loan somewhere, or get a permanent move at the end of the season. There are no hard and fast timescales, so he will continue to train with us and we'll see how it goes.

"He has been a fantastic servant and ambassador for the Club; he's a great lad and a great character and we are happy to support him in any way we can."
