PAGE: "IT'S A NEW START FOR ME"

Posted on: Mon 21 Jan 2008

New Town signing Robert Page arrived at the Club today to start a new chapter in his career and hopefully make his mark in the famous Blue and White stripes. htafc.com caught up with the big Welsh centre back to get his views on his move up North.

"I heard about the offer in the week when Iain Dowie called me and mentioned Huddersfield were interested. I need to be playing games and obviously I've not been playing at Coventry so it was an easy decision to make. Huddersfield is a big club and somewhere I wanted to come. Everyone I've spoken to has spoken highly of the manager; I haven't had much chance to speak to him myself but we just said I need to get the final bits of my medical out of the way and hopefully I'll be training with the rest of the lads tomorrow."

After only making two appearances this year for The Sky Blues, both coming in the League Cup, Page admitted he was always considering a move away from the Club.

"I didn't want to make a rash decision; it had to be somewhere that was right for me. Geographically it's a bit better for me than Coventry, but not only that, Huddersfield is a big club. It's another good challenge and a new start for me that I'm thoroughly looking forward to."

Page joins the club ahead of Saturday's FA cup Fourth Round tie away at Oldham and he made it clear he wants to get started as soon as possible.

"Now I'm here I just want to get my boots on and crack on with things. I'm looking forward to the first game and getting involved with the lads."

The 33 year-old centre back brings plenty of experience to the Club having played 40 games for Wales and his 'know-how' will prove to be important in what is a reasonably young Town defence. Page is known in the game for being a leader which could also play a valuable part in The Terriers run-in.

"Frank (Sinclair) and I will bring the average age up a bit I'm guessing but I think experience and youth is a good mix. Being a leader has always come naturally to me; I've been looked at as a leader at all my previous clubs and somebody who takes control, and I think that's just an important part of my game."
