LUCAS GRABS GOAL IN DERBY WIN

Posted on: Thu 27 Dec 2007

Town's 18-year old striker Lucas Akins scored his first goal for loan club Northwich Victoria on Wednesday as the Trickies won their local derby at Altrincham to move off the bottom of the Blue Square Premier.

Akins, who partnered fellow loanee Nick Farquharson in the absence of usual strike partner Lee Steele, scored an equaliser after 17 minutes after combining well with Danny Williams. Coincidentally, Farquharson is on loan from Town's own Boxing Day opponents Crewe Alexandra.

Academy graduate Akins hit a left-footed drive from 18 yards that flew into the bottom corner, leveling after former Town striker Chris Senior had opened the scoring for Altrincham.

Northwich's winner came through a 42nd minute free-kick after Lucas had been brought down on the edge of the box.

The win, recorded in front of a bumper crowd of 1,851, lifted Northwich off the bottom of the table and into 22nd place - seven points from safety.

Lucas and his teammates will be looking for another win on Saturday when they face a tough-looking trip to Rushden & Diamonds. Check htafc.com to see how he gets on!
