LOAN WATCH - LUCAS AKINS

Posted on: Mon 17 Dec 2007

Lucas Akins got a full 90 minutes under his belt as he saw Northwich Victoria lose their first game since his arrival last month. The Vics succumbed to a 2-1 defeat away to Vauxhall Motors in the FA Trophy 1st round.

However this is the first blip since Lucas' arrival as The Vics have been on a some what of a mini-revival of late enjoying some good results, including an impressive win last weekend against Oxford.

Lucas provided another positive performance as he went in search of his first goal for the club. However Northwich played with little conviction and at times were dictated by a Vauxhall Motors side who showed more drive and determination to win the game. They battled harder than their opponents and thoroughly deserved to be in the second round.

Goals from Field and Brannan for the home side were enough to ensure victory. Lee Steele's goal did provide a contest for a short time, but his removal through injury put an end to any fight back. His on-going partnership with Lucas has been a bright point to Lucas' arrival, as the two continue to flourish together.

Lucas Akins could have levelled the game in the last minute but was denied by former Vics loan signing Andrew Murphy, who made a wonder-save on the line - preventing a certain goal for the striker. Akins ran tirelessly throughout the game and showed some good touches and movement, which caused problems for the home defence, and his pace and strength were always a danger.

Lucas and Northwich will have to bounce back quickly from this defeat as they go in search of a cup success, this time in the Setanta Shield, when they travel to Barrow on 22nd December.
