BECKETT AT A LOSS OVER DECISION
Town striker Luke Beckett talked to htafc.com today about the 3-2 defeat to Cheltenham Town at the Galpharm Stadium and admitted that he was at a loss as to why his injury-time equaliser was ruled out by referee Shoebridge.
"The ball came into the box and I went up for the header - it's not like I jumped all over him. I've seen the incident on TV and I don't think that my arm went up but I understand that the referee has disallowed the goal for an elbow and even if my arm was up there, everybody jumps with their arms up a little.
"I think that the referee got a few things wrong throughout the game. I thought he gave needless free-kicks on occasions but then he missed two penalties as well and after speaking to the Gaffer today, I understand that my first disallowed goal early on was in fact onside.
"If things were going for us at the moment, I would have scored two goals. As it is, I didn't score and we lost but that's the way things go sometimes. It's good that we are creating chances still and if we had scored another goal at 1-0 I think it would have killed the game off."
With more important League One fixtures coming up, the 30-year old cited the return of several important players from injury as vital to maintaining the promotion push.
"We've got a lot of key players out at the moment; Frank (Sinclair), Worthy (Jon Worthington), Clarkey (Nathan Clarke) and Danny (Cadamarteri) but in the not-too-distant future I think a few of these are coming back and that will make a big difference to us. In order to gain promotion, we need to keep our big players fit and it's good that we have picked up a few results while these lads have been out. Once these players are back, we should be ok."
