COLLINS PICKS UP IRELAND UNDER-21 CAP
Town's ever-impressive midfielder Michael Collins has picked up his first cap for Ireland at under-21 level this evening after being brought on as a half-time substitute by manager Don Givens during the 2-2 draw in Germany.
Michael, a graduate of the Academy, had previously captained the Irish under-17 side but had to withdraw from the under-21 squad in his only previous call-up in March through injury.
Collins established himself in the Town first eleven last season and has continued his impressive form under Andy Ritchie, starting all three of Town's first-team games in the current season. As a result, he recently signed a contract extension that will see him stay at the Galpharm Stadium until the summer of 2010.
Ireland under-21s are currently building towards the European Under-21 Championships and in particular a qualifier against Portugal at home next month; Michael will no doubt be hoping that he is involved.
