RICTHIE: "I HOPE IT HAS WHETTED THE APPETITE"

Posted on: Thu 02 Aug 2007

Andy Ritchie gave us his thoughts after this evening's game at the Galpharm.

"I am obviously very pleased. They are a top quality side and make no bones about it, they were going for it as well. We are very pleased with the way we have played, but the lads know now that they cannot let those standards drop. We have got Mansfield at the weekend and the lads have got to show the same endeavour and the same desire to win the game that they have shown tonight.

"There were some good things and some bad things; we contributed to a couple of their chances in the first half by no clearing our lines and playing the ball into the wrong areas. We had a chat about that at half time - in the nicest possible way! - and we've come out in the second half and made better decisions. We did not allow them as pressure in the second half and we created chances.

"I just hope it has whetted the appetite for the fans and we will see them come back for the first game of the season. It was certainly a blip at the weekend, but tonight I think we were more than a match and it could have been 4-4 if everyone had taken their chances.

"They almost fielded 2 international sides and bringing on the likes of Savage, Bentley and Derbyshire to name just three gave us different challenges and one's I thought the lads coped excellently with.

"We will use that now and we must not let the standards drop. I am very pleased, but it does not mean anything if we don't beat Yeovil on the 11th."
