Town won the 'War Of the Roses' clash at the Galpharm Stadium this evening with a superb performance against the Premiership's Blackburn Rovers. Cadamarteri and Collins were the pick of the Town bunch but every player can take great credit from an excellent showing. Beckett got the goals with two fine finishes and Rovers' last minute consolation could not spoil the celebrations.

Michael Collins had a great chance to put Town in front within two minutes when he made a surging run from midfield to latch onto and incisive flicked through ball from Luke Beckett which split Stephen Warnock and Rovers' skipper Ryan Nelson but dragged his shot wide of keeper Jason Brown's right hand post.

Town's back four were tested just moments later and Nathan Clarke dealt superbly with Rigters cross taking it just off the head of diving dangerman Benni McCarthy.

Collins was involved again moments later with another great chance after collecting a great through ball form Andy Holdsworth on the left flank. This time the midfielder looked up and seeing keeper Brown off his line, attempted to curl an effort inside the left hand post but was just wide.

Tugay had the first effort on target on 7 minutes but saw his effort blocked in the area by Clarke.

Rovers' new signing Maceo Rigters had a chance to open the scores just 40 seconds later when he collected a great ball out of defence from Chris Samba, bore down on goal but Matt Glennon made an excellent stop with his legs.

Beckett had a gilt-edged chance to put Town in front after a great cross from Cadamarteri was headed back across goal by Collins for Beckett who, leaning back, could not get a full connection and his effort was cleared.

Town continued to craft the better of the chances and on 20 minutes Cadamarteri's neat turn on the right flank left Nelson for dead and spotting the run of Beckett, the striker crossed it square to his partner from the by-line but keeper Brown was down quickly to smother the danger.

Always able to craft something from nothing, the Premiership side Tugay left footed effort from the edge of the 'D' which was well saved by Glennon.

With ten minutes of the half remaining Bruno Berner had an excellent chance to put the visitors ahead when he collected Paul Gallagher's through ball and burst through on goal only to see his one-on-one effort well saved by Glennon.

It was a superb interchange between Collins and Cadamarteri on 37 minutes which led to Town's next effort. Two brilliant 1-2s between the pair eventually set-up Danny Schofield
