BRADFORD PARK AVENUE 0 HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 1
Town retained the West Yorkshire Cup with a victory in this evening's pre-season tie at the Horsfall Stadium. It was by far the most physical of the pre-season tests so far and as a result of the battle in midfield, Town were prevented from playing the flowing football seen at Bridlington at the weekend.
The home side had the first shot at goal after eleven minutes when midfielder Ross Clegg cut in from his right flank berth, exchanged passes with a couple of team-mates before hitting a first-time, right-footed effort which rattled the base of keeper Simon Eastwood's right-hand post. The chance was certainly deserved as the Unibond League side had started the brighter, pressurising Town at every opportunity and retaining the ball well.
Striker Mike Moseley had the next chance five minutes later when he collected the ball 22 yards out and rifled an effort that 'keeper Eastwood was more than equal to.
GOAL - Town took the lead on 21 minutes and it was legend Andy Booth who found the back of the net with a trademark header at the far post. The goal was all about Chris Brandon however, who having been fouled two minutes previously, dusted himself off, received the ball out wide which he delicately dinked over the onrushing defender before knocking it to the back post for Booth and there was only one outcome.
Brandon was on target four minutes later after a clever ball wide from Danny Cadamarteri to right back James Berrett saw the first year professional cross to the far post for Town's Bradford-born winger who headed straight into the arms of Jon Worsnop.
Of all the pre-season games thus far, this one was certainly the most full-blooded, a fact aptly summed up midway through the half when Jon Worthington executed a typically tasty challenge on Steve Connors who was not averse to executing his own.
As in previous pre-season games, Town used the wide-men well and on half an hour a long ball released Cadamarteri down the right. His perfect cross picked out Brandon who, with Malvin Kamara in support, appeared to be caught in two minds and rather than shooting or knocking it down for the Town winger ended up heading harmlessly wide.
Good build up play from Town almost resulted in a second goal and it was quick thinking by Eastwood that started the move. The 'keeper played the ball out to Berrett who had come short and the right back fed Kamara, who in turn fed Cadamarteri whose touch to Collins played the midfielder through on goal. Unfortunately, Collins' first touch was too heavy allowing keeper Worsnop the opportunity to dive and smother the danger, giving Collins an accidental boot in the chest.

After a busy first half, Chris Brandon was involved again early in the second when he was decked by Ross Clegg in the centre-circle. It was just a knock however and the midfielder was able to carry on.
Tom Clarke entered the fray ten minutes after the restart replacing Shane Killock and moving to right-back, with Berrett moving to the opposite flank.
Town were well on top in the early stages of the second half but just failed to make their pressure count on 59 minutes after a neat passage of play. After a good run by Kamara, Collins picked up the ball in the centre and let fly with a vicious effort which was palmed away by Worsnop only as far as Cadamarteri whose ball back in was collected by Tom Clarke. The classy defender out-foxed his opposite number but his cross was cleared to Brandon and the midfielder rocketed his shot over the bar.
The home side had a chance of their own minutes later when Chris Cahgan wriggled through from the left flank and was about to pull the trigger but James Berrett made a great covering tackle.
Cadamarteri continued to be a good outlet for Town and his break down the right with back up from Kamara resulted in the winger being felled in the centre 25 yards out from goal. Frank Sinclair took the set-piece and was inches away with a clever free-kick which rolled just inches wide of Worsnop's right-hand post.
