POST-BRIDLINGTON COMMENTS
Following Town's 6-1 win at Bridlington Town on Saturday, htafc.com spoke with manager Andy Ritchie to get his thoughts.
"I was pleased with Saturday; it would be easy to go into these matches with the wrong mental attitude, but the players have been absolutely super so far - as I told them this morning. We now need to keep it that way", said Andy.
"We really took the game to Bridlington and we ended up three goals to the good after 20 minutes. It's very easy to become unstuck against these non-League sides but we've been really good.
"I was especially pleased that the two new lads got on the score sheet and have done so well in general. Both of Malvin's goals were brilliantly struck and it's no disrespect to the 'keeper that he conceded those, as I don't believe any professional goalkeeper would have stopped them.
"Danny's movement was good again and his all-round contribution was excellent, as well as his goals. I'm pleased that they have both (Cadamarteri and Kamara) started well but I want them to make a real impression in the tougher games we've got coming up, because that will be when we get a proper gauge on how well we are doing."
Ritchie told the official website on Friday that he may have opted for a diamond in midfield against Bridlington, but he explained today that he decided against this option.
"We didn't really play the diamond in midfield - we asked Andy (Holdsworth) and Mike (Collins) to take turns in going forward and I thought they did it quite well. We'll probably play it tomorrow night though.
"I was pleased with everybody, although I was disappointed with the goal we conceded. Easty knows he should have done better with it, but he'll learn from it. We put most of the young professionals on for the last half-hour and I thought we lost our rhythm a little bit initially, especially when they scored and they got a bit of a boost from that.
"However, we regained control and managed to get another good goal. I've been pleased with the young lads - Mitch Bailey did well again and Lucas (Akins) could have easily been on the score sheet apart from a great save from their 'keeper. Luke Malcher looked lively too, closing down the goalie well which led to the goal."
England under-18 goalkeeper Simon Eastwood took two heavy knocks after coming on and first-team physiotherapist Lee Martin told htafc.com about his current condition.
"Easty tried a bit of handling in training today but he had to pull out as his thumb is still too sore following Saturday", Lee explained. "He stubbed it against their player as he made the challenge and as a result his hand is quite puffed up, so we've iced it and done a bit of ultrasound. I'm sure he'll be fine for Wednesday evening's game."
With games on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, Martin was pleased to report that the squad is in good shape. Andy Booth missed this weekend's match after a clash of heads at Emley on Wednesday but Lee told us that he will feature in one of the two upcoming games.
"We'll probably remove Boothy's staples tomorrow and he'll be fine to play in either game.
"A few reported with little niggles this morning, but that's only because their bodies are getting used to playing again. We took Brando and Mirf off on Saturday due to hamstring and groin niggles respectively but we've given them a little treatment and they've both completed training without issue today."
