BRIDLINGTON TOWN 1 HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 6
Malvin Kamara 14, 28
Danny Cadamarteri 24, 38
Luke Beckett 51
Mitchell Bailey 75
Town were far too good for Bridlington Town at the Queensgate Ground in the second pre-season friendly under Andy Ritchie, with new signings Malvin Kamara and Danny Cadamarteri starring in particular with two goals each.
In a game featuring three thirty minute periods, the home defence couldn't cope with Cadamarteri's quick feet and excellent movement as he made it three goals in two matches for the Terriers. Other features of the game for Town included good performances from Aaron Hardy at right-back and the further return of both Clarke brothers - Tom playing half an hour without problem and looking in very good touch. Andy Holdsworth excelled in the defensive midfield position and worked well in tandem with the always impressive Michael Collins at the heart of Town's engine room as Town made it 9 goals in just 2 games.
All of Town's younger players showed well in the last half-hour of the game - Mitchell Bailey grabbing a goal and continuing the good form that impressed many at Emley on Wednesday night.
As Andy Ritchie had discussed with htafc.com before the game, Town started the game in the diamond formation that served them so well at the back-end of last season. Andy Holdsworth took the majority of the defensive duty in the centre for Town, leaving his partner Michael Collins to showcase his ever-developing skills at causing the opposition problems.
Town showed their intent early on in the game, with Holdsworth seeing a lot of the ball and attempting to find Brandon or Kamara with early balls in behind their respective full-backs. Luke Beckett had an early chance blocked well by a Bridlington defender before a home striker broke clear of Joe Skarz with a clever flick, only to shoot wide of Matt Glennon's left-hand post.
Danny Cadamarteri, fresh from opening his Town account with a penalty at Emley on Wednesday, looked bright and it was his clever ball around the corner that set fellow new signing Malvin Kamara away down the right wing, although his low cross was cleared well by the home defence at the near post.
The former Everton and Leicester man was pivotal to most of Town's good work going forward and it was no surprise that he was heavily involved in the Town opener after 14 minutes.
GOAL - A long dead ball from Matthew Glennon was excellently flicked on by Cadamarteri into the path of the onrushing Collins, who advanced to the edge of the box before feeding the ball into the feet of Luke Beckett. Luke found himself in the box to the left of the keeper's goal and just as he turned the ball inside onto his left foot, the charging Malvin Kamara arrived to slam the ball home inside the goalies' near post - the sheer power of the strike giving the keeper no chance.
Bridlington were struggling to cope with Collins' runs past the strikers, with none of the home midfielders tracking his runs, and he almost extended Town's lead 5 minutes later when another good surge forward sent him clear of the home defence. Thankfully for Bridlington, their goalkeeper had an excellent starting position and managed to reach the ball and clear just ahead of Town's Irish midfielder.
By this point, Town were dominating and an excellent short corner between Joe Skarz and Chris Brandon presented the former with an opportunity to pick out Cadamarteri with a pin-point cross, which he slammed against the right-hand post with a solid header.
A couple of minutes later, similar good work between Collins and right-back Aaron Hardy gave Luke Beckett a headed opportunity that he placed wide of goal.
Cadamarteri and Collins were the key figures for Town now and the latter almost grabbed a second with an amazing strike. Quick, short passing between strikers Cadamarteri and Beckett presented Collins with the ball in the centre and he hit a brilliant drive with the outside of his preferred right boot that rattled the bar with the goalkeeper beaten.
GOAL - it was no surprise when Town got the second goal in the 24th minute. A loose pass from the Bridlington number 10 allowed the busy Chris Brandon to intercept on the edge of the centre circle and his quick pass released Luke Beckett down the left channel. The former Sheffield United striker twisted and turned before delivery a delicate cross right onto Danny Cadamarteri's head at the back post, who made no mistake in nodding the ball back across goal and over the goalkeeper to make it 2-0.
GOAL - it didn't take long for Town to make it 3-0 - 4 minutes in fact. The ever-dangerous Cadamarteri was brought down 25-yards from goal by the Bridlington number 5 and from the resulting free-kick, Andy Holdsworth moved the ball to the right of the wall for Malvin Kamara to unleash a pile-driver to the unsighted goalkeeper's right for his second goal of the game.
End of First Period: Bridlington Town 0 Huddersfield Town 3
Town continued to dominate the game after the first interval and they should have extended their lead just 3 minutes after the restart. Nathan Clarke's ball, combined with the clever movement of Luke Beckett, allowed the striker to break the home offside trap but he waited too long to pull the trigger and the Bridlington number 15 managed to get back to make an excellent block.
Bridlington were seeing very little of the ball in this half-hour, seemingly quite content for the Town defenders to have the ball and only pressing when the Terriers entered the home half.
GOAL - Town's fourth goal of the game came after 38 minutes, the move starting through an excellent burst of pace from Kamara. His break down the right created space for Danny Schofield, who had come inside to collect the ball off his fellow winger. Schofield found himself in possession inside the penalty area but instead of shooting, he slipped the ball to Danny Cadamarteri who tapped the ball into the empty net (the 'keeper had tried to predict the shot from Schofield) to make it 4-0.
GOAL - The goals were coming thick and fast for the Terriers now, with the fifth of the game after 51 minutes. A pass inside from the left wing hit the heels of a defender and dropped to Jon Worthington, who played the ball to his right rather than shooting from the edge of the box. His clever pass found Luke Beckett, who showed how lethal he is inside the area by drilling the ball into the corner of the net to make it two in two pre-season games for him.
Bridlington had their best chance of the game so far after 55 minutes following a miss-kick by Nathan Clarke. This error - the only one the elder Clarke brother made all match - allowed the home number 10 to break clear but he tried to round Matt Glennon and the big custodian forced him wide before Frank Sinclair tackled him and cleared to safety.
Cadamarteri wasn't finished yet and he forced a Bridlington defender to clear one goal-bound effort off the line before setting up Luke Beckett in the area for a goal that was disallowed for offside.
End of Second Period: Bridlington Town 0 Huddersfield Town 5
Town made widespread changes for the final half-hour of the game, playing an eleven largely consisting of the younger professionals. Despite this, the majority of the opportunities still came the way of Andy Ritchie's side with Matthew Young setting the tone early on with a forceful run inside off the right-wing that almost presented Lucas Akins with an opportunity.
Danny Racchi, by this point playing at left-back after initially playing on the opposite side, did well to win a header on the 65th minute giving Akins an opportunity to shine. He showed excellent strength before slipping the ball inside to Danny Schofield who beat the keeper with a bending shot from 25 yards - also beating the post in the process.
GOAL - Bridlington got a consolation goal in the 70th minute. Simon Eastwood came a long way out of his goal to collect a deep left-wing cross and initially did very well to hold the ball, but as he landed he spilled it at the feet of the Bridlington number 9 who placed the ball into the empty net despite the best efforts of Frank Sinclair.
GOAL - Town re-established their five goal lead 5 minutes later after a goalkeeping error. Luke Malcher did well to put the 'keeper under pressure following a back pass, forcing him wide and inducing a poor clearance that fell to Mitchell Bailey 25-yards out. This gave the young midfielder, instantly recognisable due to his Ivan Campo-style hair, the chance to return the ball into the empty net, which he did with consummate ease.
Town's England under-18 goalkeeper Simon Eastwood was in the wars late-on, collecting massive whacks from both Bridlington forwards when collecting the ball on two separate occasions. After extensive on-field treatment from Town physio Lee Martin, the gutsy Eastwood recovered to finish the game.
The final chance of the game was crafted by Akins, who collected a clever chip forward from Frank Sinclair on his chest before turning his man and trying to place a shot wide of the 'keeper's left. Fortunately for the home side, the goalie got a strong left hand to the ball and pushed it away.
