GOLDEN BOOT WINNER AT THE GALPHARM

Posted on: Thu 19 Jul 2007

Blackburn Rovers' visit to the Galpharm Stadium on August 1st will give Town fans a chance to see one of the stars of the UEFA European Under-21 Championship.

This game against Premiership opposition is Town's only home pre-season game ahead of the 2007/08 League One campaign and it gives Town fans a chance to see Rovers' newest signing - 23-year old Dutch striker Maceo Rigters.

Rigters (pictured) was awarded the golden boot in the summer tournament as he outscored England's Leroy Lita, helping the Netherlands to the tournament win with a spectacular bicycle kick against England in the semi-finals and the third goal during the 4-1 final win over Serbia. Shortly after the conclusion of the tournament, Rigters sealed a move to Ewood Park from Dutch side NAC Breda for an undisclosed fee.

Maceo will be looking to take some of the scoring burden off likely strike partner Benni McCarthy for Rovers this season, as he carried the goal scoring torch for the Lancastrians alone at times last season - hitting a total of 19 goals in the season. The South African striker joined Rovers for a bargain £2 million in the previous pre-season and it could be argued that he was the buy of the 2006/07 season.

Town's own new signings Frank Sinclair, Malvin Kamara and Danny Cadamarteri should be on display on August 1st along with Blackburn stars Robbie Savage, David Bentley and Morten Gamst Pedersen so why not book your tickets now for what promises to be a great day at the Galpharm?
