TAYLOR-FLETCHER TO BLACKPOOL
Gary Taylor-Fletcher's two year stay with Huddersfield Town has come to an end as he has signed for newly-promoted Championship side Blackpool for an undisclosed fee.
Fletch follows in the footsteps of former Town 'keeper Paul Rachubka in moving west to Bloomfield Road and he completed his medical on Monday afternoon before signing for Simon Grayson's side, meaning that he may well play against Town in the first round Carling Cup game at Blackpool in August.
Town had already rejected two previous offers from Blackpool which becomes the much-travelled striker's eighth club in as many years, with the 26-year old playing more for Town than any of his previous clubs - 92 appearances in total, scoring 26 goals. After signing on a free transfer from Lincoln City in the summer of 2005 Fletch was in and out of the starting line-up during his first season at the Galpharm Stadium, never really fully establishing himself in the side until last term when he started 41 games, scoring 11 goals. His versatility came to the fore last season when he appeared up front, on the wing and in central midfield at varying times during the campaign.
GTF will be fondly remembered by Town fans for his goal at Stamford Bridge in January 2006 that gave Town parity with then-Premiership Champions Chelsea for 7 minutes in an FA Cup Third Round tie, as well as his amazing strike against Rotherham United 7 months later that went down in the record books as the 500,000th goal in Football League history.
Town boss Andy Ritchie commented: "Blackpool made two previous offers which we turned down because we did not want to lose him, but they forced the issue and Gary was keen to play in the Championship. In the end, it was a force that we couldn't refuse. It was one of those driven things that's hard to stop and I can understand Gary wanting to play at a higher level and as much as I wanted him to stay here I did not want to stop him playing higher up - a similar thing to Brandon.
"We had to make sure the deal was really good for us, which it was in the end, but we are sorry to see him go and hopefully he will have a good run in the Championship.
"We are ready for our challenge and hopefully we will be adding another face to the squad in the not too distant future."
Everybody at Huddersfield Town Football Club would like to wish Gary the best of luck during his time with Blackpool.
