Town manager Andy Ritchie spoke to htafc.com today after rejecting an enquiry over the availability of the long-serving Danny Schofield from League One rivals Yeovil Town.
Russell Slade wanted to end Doncaster-born Schofield's 9-year stint with the Terriers but Ritchie told us he has no intentions of letting Danny go.
"We've had an enquiry about Danny Schofield from Yeovil, but I've knocked it back straight away. They wanted to buy Danny and they were talking about a nominal fee, but that didn't make any difference as I don't want to sell him. I've spoken to Danny about it and he was quite happy that we wanted him here and didn't consider accepting the bid for a second."
Schofield moved off the wing and into an attacking central midfield position under Caretaker boss Gerry Murphy following the departure of Peter Jackson before picking up an injury and missing all of the games played under Ritchie. With this being the case, Town fans may have been wondering where the skilful midfielder would fit into Ritchie's plans given his favour for playing wide men, but this was something Andy was more than happy to clear up.
"He definitely can play on the left wing. I've not seen him play as much as other people have here but I know that he's played most of his games down the left and I think that we just need to get hold of him and stress that he has to stay disciplined in that role. Having said that, I see him playing on the wide left again for us as he's got a bit of pace and he's good when running at people with the ball at his feet.
However, Andy was well aware that the former Brodsworth Miners Welfare player came to Town as a striker before being converted to a winger and that alternative is something he may explore in pre-season.
"I'm aware that he came here as a striker and it's a possibility that we may chuck him up front in a pre-season game, to give him a chance in that role."
