TOWN INSIST ON FEE FOR BRANDON
Town midfielder Chris Brandon may be moving to newly promoted Championship side Blackpool before the start of the season - but only if the price is right.
Terriers Manager Andy Ritchie has set a fee for the Bradford-born midfielder and he spoke to htafc.com today about the possibility of the 31-year old midfielder moving to Bloomfield Road ahead of the coming season.
"I've spoken to Blackpool boss Simon Grayson about Chris", said Town's manager. "He's not certain of his budget for the coming season and so he is meeting with his Chairman about it soon to clarify what he has."
'Brando' moved to Blackpool on loan in March, playing five times for Grayson's side and scoring two goals. He missed out on the Play-Off final win over Yeovil Town after being sent-off against Scunthorpe United and losing his place.
"I've also talked to Chris to put him in the picture over proceedings and he is keen to play in the Championship, which is fully understandable. He is 31-years old and this may be his last chance to play at that level, so I will not stand in his way. I was a player myself and I always wanted to play at the highest level possible."
As a player Ritchie made over 650 career appearances, playing at the highest level with Manchester United and Oldham Athletic. With a year left to run on the former Chesterfield man's contract, Andy has made it clear that he will not be leaving the Galpharm on a free transfer.
"I did explain that we want a fee for him though and I have given Simon (Grayson) a figure that we would expect to receive for Chris. If the deal does not suit all parties, then it will not happen and we will happily welcome Chris back for pre-season as he is a valuable member of our squad.
"I would expect Chris to return and give us 100% if the move doesn't happen. He is a professional and while it may be disappointing for him if it doesn't work out, Chris told me on the phone that he is happy to come back to us. As it is, I think he has a very good chance of playing at Championship level if he stays here as we are looking to get there in the coming season!"
In other news, former Town winger James Hand has agreed to play for Irish side Shamrock Rovers while he assesses his options for the future.
