Town completed the double over local rivals Leeds United and recorded a second consecutive 1-0 win over United at the Galpharm Stadium courtesy of Nathan Clarke's third goal of the season - a powerful header in the 16th minute of the game.
The Terriers had the better of the first half and went in deservedly a goal to the good at the interval, but Leeds pressed hard for an equaliser in the second 45 and were only denied by a combination of resolute defending and the brilliance of 'keeper Alex Smithies, who was rightly awarded the 'Man of the Match' accolade by sponsors Benbeck Forwarding.
The Terriers started the game in an orthodox 4-4-2 formation, with goalkeeper Smithies protected by a back four of Williams, Butler, Nathan Clarke and skipper Holdsworth. Pilkington and Ainsworth occupied the left and right wings either side of Collins and Goodwin in midfield, leaving the returning Roberts to partner new boy Jutkiewicz in attack.
New boy Jutkiewicz made a great first impression - as early as the 2nd minute he rolled defender Rui Marques and advanced to the edge of the penalty area before hitting a low volley straight into the arms of 'keeper Ankergren.
The game was fiercely contested in the early stages, with both sides working very hard to get the ball back when out of possession. A good one-two between Roberts and Pilkington on the left flank looked to have created an opening down the left flank in the 9th minute but the wingers crossed flashed across the face of goal, evading Jutkiewicz at the near post.
Leeds' first chance came in the 15th minute through a speedy break following a Town corner. Pilkington's delivery was cleared at the near post by Robinson and Trundle did well to hold the ball up before sliding a pass to Trundle, whose shot was well held by Smithies.
GOAL - Town then took a 16th minute through a simple corner routine to send the Galpharm Stadium into ecstasy, with defender Nathan Clarke scoring his third goal of the season. Good work from Collins, Ainsworth and Holdsworth down the Town right earned the home side a right-sided corner and from Roberts' in-swinging delivery, the centre-back climbed unopposed and planted a firm header to the goalkeeper's left side.
The atmosphere raised another decibel thereafter when Ainsworth and Leeds winger Robinson had a coming-to, with the referee sensibly talking to both players to calm the situation. Ainsworth soon put the incident behind him and went on a great run in the 20th minute, racing past left-back Dickinson and forcing Ankergren to claim his cross ahead of the lurking Jutkiewicz.
Leeds posed a danger going forward and a swerving long range shot from Robinson in the 23rd minute forced Smithies to fist the ball away. From the resulting corner, Smithies produced a great reaction stop to deny defender Marques from scoring a firm header at the back post.
Everton loanee Jutkiewicz was impressing and his firm, low drive in the 25th minute almost crept underneath Ankergren, with the Leeds custodian doing well to gather the rebound in as Roberts looked to tap in the rebound.
Leeds started to press more regularly as the game entered the midpoint of the first-half and Snodgrass did well again down the right in the 29th minute to beat three players before curling a shot over the crossbar from an acute angle.
Visiting right-back Hughes did brilliantly to deny Pilkington a clear run at goal in the 34th minute after good combination from strikers Roberts and Jutkiewicz, with 'Robbo' putting the winger through with a slide rule pass. Hughes outmuscled the taller Town player off the ball before clearing the ball ahead of Michael Collins.
Brilliant passing play from Town created another chance from a right-sided corner in the 40th minute; via Butler, Robbo's delivery found its way to Jutkiewicz at the back post whose shot was deflected over the bar.
Two minutes later Town were on the attack again, with a typical lung-busting run from Collins being picked out by skipper Holdsworth before Ankergren saved his eventual near post shot.
Excellent hold-up play from Roberts in the 43rd minute bamboozled Delph and gave Ainsworth space to cross from the right flank, with Pilkington getting in front of marker Hughes to plant a header narrowly over the crossbar.
The last action of the first-half saw left winger Robinson cut inside Holdsworth before shooting wildly into the packed Fantastic Media Stand.

SUB - Lee Clark made a substitution during the interval, with Phil Jevons replacing Lionel Ainsworth. This change saw Pilkington switch to the right, with Roberts on the left and Jevons alongside Jutkiewicz in attack.
Leeds went on the attack early with Trundle spinning neatly in the box before shooting high into the away fans and the visitors has reappeared from the tunnel in determined mood. Becchio felt he had been fouled in the box in the 48th minute but his appeals were turned away immediately by referee Taylor.
SUB - Leeds boss Simon Grayson made his first change in the 52nd minute, replacing Andrew Hughes with Jonathan Howson. This change saw Douglas switch to right-back.
Town's first shot of the second half came in the 54th minute, with Roberts sending a speculative volley from a Jutkiewicz flick way over the Leeds crossbar from long range.
Substitute Howson should have done better with a headed chance three minutes later after Douglas whipped a good ball into the area, but all he managed to do was deflect the ball well wide of Smithies' right hand post.
Smithies was needed again to save a firm Robinson header from a 61st minute Snodgrass corner, with the England under-19 custodian doing brilliantly to hold the ball at the first attempt.
BOOKING - Leeds defenderRichard Naylor became the first player to receive a yellow card in the 67th minute after a clumsy aerial challenge on Jutkiewicz. The defender had already been reprimanded by the official for a similar challenge on Jevons earlier in the half.
Town pressed the Leeds goal for a second with twenty minutes left and Jevons went close with a prod from ten yards out after Williams did well to cross from the left.
SUB - Clarkintroduced Dominik Werling to the game in the 74th minute - he replaced Gary Roberts, who picked up a knock when making a thunderous challenge on Douglas moments earlier.
SUB - At the same time Leeds replaced Lee Trundle with American striker Mike Grella.
The Leeds fans in the Pink Link Stand thought their side had found a way back into the game in the 78th minute, only for Smithies to deny them. Robinson did well to pick up a loose ball before he played a clever reverse pass to find fellow winger Snodgrass inside the area; however, his shot was smothered by the Town 'keeper, who had come from his line quickly.
SUB - Lee Clark made his last throw of the dice in the 81st minute, bringing on Ian Craney for debutant Jutkiewicz to shore up the midfield.
A mix-up in the Town box involving Williams and Butler almost presented Snodgrass with an opportunity to shoot in the 83rd minute, but again Smithies came to the rescue - claiming the ball at its high point before being fouled by the Scottish player.
Robinson - probably Leeds' best player on the day - tested the Town 'keeper again with a low drive a minute later but Alex got his whole body behind the ball comfortably.
Pilkington went on a solo run for Town in the 87th minute, charging past many Leeds shirts before firing straight at Ankergren.
BOOKING - Andy Holdsworth was booked moments later for a foul on Robinson and from that set-piece, Richard Naylor hit the post with a header before the ball was scrambled to safety.
SUB - Grayson added some height in the closing stages as his side constantly attacked in the final stages of the game, with 6' 6" defender Lubo Michalik replacing Rui Marques to provide a target from set-pieces.
BOOKING - Leeds midfielder Fabian Delph was booked in added time for a lunging tackle on Anthony Pilkington.
Rather than keeping the ball in the corner late into the four minutes of added time, Jevons sent a strong volley narrowly wide of Ankergren's near post. A minute later Town broke away and Collins went close to a second, but was stopped from rounding the 'keeper by Ankergren's outstretched hand.
