The Mighty Terriers climbed to second in the League One table with an historic victory over Bradford City in the Big Derby this evening. It was a thoroughly deserved three points for the Terriers who worked tirelessly and restricted the home side to a handful of chances. Hudson's sweet free kick in the first half was cancelled out by an equally well-taken set-piece from Bobby Petta but Terriers legend Andy Booth ensured Town had the West Yorkshire bragging rights with a header late on.
Town made a lightening quick start to the tie with Booth attacking down the right wing and crossing to the centre where the ball was cleared only as far as Carss on the edge of the area. The midfielder fed Adams down the left and he crossed for Fletch at the back post but the striker could not direct his header on target.
The home side broke immediately and Bobby Petta had the first shot on target from the edge of the Town box which was easily claimed by Rachubka.
Town countered right back and Booth latched onto long kick from Rachubka and hit wide left footed from 10 yards under pressure from Bower.
The Bantams crafted a well-worked opportunity on five minutes when Petta rounded a committed Andy Holdsworth and fed Claridge. The striker cleverly fed Muirhead on the edge of the area who skewed his first time effort well wide.
Andy Holdsworth had Town's next effort but his speculative effort from 25 yards sailed well over the bar.
On nine minutes the busy Brandon took the ball from Taylor-Fletcher who did well to hold it up after good work in defence by the fit-again Mirfin. The Bradford born midfielder struck a well placed effort but Howarth was always equal to the effort.
Town's best effort in the early stages came from a well crafted move which was started and finished by Mark Hudson. The midfielder played Carss down the left, he crossed for Booth who returned the ball to Hudson and the former Chesterfield man hit a sweetly struck effort which grazed Howarth's right hand post.
And it was Hudson who fired Town into the lead on 20 minutes and opened his Town account with an exquisitely taken free-kick after defender Wetherall body-checked Taylor-Fletcher on the edge of the area to the right of the box. Hudson placed the ball and curled the ball into the top left hand corner giving Howarth no chance.
Town could have doubled their lead just two minutes later when Mirfin latched onto a Carss free-kick in the area but could not direct his header on target.
However, the home side levelled with a well-taken set-piece of their own with ten minutes of the half remaining when Bobby Petta curled a left-footed free-kick over the wall and out of the reach of Paul Rachubka.
With two minutes remaining Rabs had to be on his guard when a short throw from the right flank was not cleared by the Town defence and Cooke had a snap-shot which was well claimed at his near post by the Town keeper.
As the fourth official signalled two minutes of stoppage time, Claridge had a speculative effort from 20 yards which was easily claimed by Rachubka.

Rachubka was quickly off his line within a minute of the restart when Bobby Petta skilfully skipped past two Town defenders but Rabs read the danger and rushed from his line.
There was drama at the other end just two minutes later when Carss crossed for Booth but the striker's header was well claimed by Howarth.
On 51 minutes Claridge saw another effort go wide when he collected Muirhead's ball after a good run by the winger.
Town had a gilt-edged chance to go back in front after great work on the left flank by Gary Taylor-Fletcher saw the striker jink past two defenders, forge into the box and lay the ball off for Carss who put the ball over from seven yards.
On the hour mark Gary Taylor-Fletcher was replaced by Pawel Abbott.
Pav had a half chance five minutes after coming on when he latched onto a cross from Carss but the striker hammered his left foot effort well wide.
On 65 minutes Tom Kearney was replaced by Steven Schumacher.
On 70 minutes Andy Cooke was replaced by Danny Cadamarteri.
With fifteen minutes remaining Boothy found the roof of the net from a Carss set-piece after Holdsworth was fouled on the right touchline.
The 3000 travelling fans were elated when Town were fired back in front with twelve minutes remaining and Andy Booth furthered increased his legendary status when he headed home. A Carss cross was headed to the edge of the area only as far as Nathan Clarke whose attempted overhead kick was guided into the back of the net by Booth.
Bobby Petta became the first person in the referee's book for a foul on Jon Worthington.
With three minutes remaining Lewis Emanuel replaced Ben Muirhead.
On 88 minutes Chris Brandon was replaced by Michael Collins.
