FOREST 4 TOWN UNDER-18s 0
Graham Mitchell's under-18 side met defeat at the hands of League leaders Nottingham Forest on Saturday in the latest game of the FA Premier Academy League season.
Forest, who have won 12 and drawn 2 of their last 14 games, proved to be too much for Town's youngsters in a rare off-day for Mitchell's side, who have had an impressive season.
Town started the game in a 4-3-3 formation, with under-16 goalkeeper Damian Eastham protected by a back four of Tom Jackson, Danny Codman, Spencer Harris and right-back Jack Hunt. Lewis Collinson, Luke Williams and Lewis Nightingale combined to form the midfield trio behind front three of Dave Heagney, Curtis Roberts and the central Daniel Broadbent.
The four Forest goals were all down to individual errors while Town were in comfortable situations, with the opening goal coming after just 20 seconds thanks to a player slipping in a defensive area. The scoreline was only 1-0 at the half-time interval and two goals in the last ten minutes gave it a rather lopsided feel.
Town's under-18 team had faired excellently in a midweek friendly at Manchester United - a game in which both first-team squad members Tom Clarke and Mitchell Bailey competed - and manager Graham Mitchell was in a positive mood when he spoke to htafc.com today.
"We didn't play particularly well on Saturday, but we performed excellently during the midweek friendly at Manchester United and in general we have been very good this season," Mitchell explained.
"I tried to switch the players around for both games but it didn't happen for us on Saturday. However, the lads have worked very hard in training so far this week and we'll be looking to put things right at Sheffield Wednesday on Friday.
"Inconsistency is sometimes a feature of performances at this level but it's the first time that it can really be leveled at the lads this season."
The under-18s will face Wednesday on Friday afternoon at 1.30pm; check htafc.com to check that the match is going ahead!
