Academy goalkeeper Alex Smithies played in England under-17's 3-1 World Cup second round win over Syria today and will be hoping to feature when the Three Lions take on Germany in the Quarter Finals of the competition on Sunday 2nd September at 11am English time (live on British Eurosport).

Smithies had no chance with the thunderbolt strike from Syrian Ziad Ajouz that made the score 2-1 at the time, but kept England in the game with several late saves as the opposition finished strongly.
