TOWN UNDER-18 0 WATFORD 0
The under-18s recorded a second clean sheet in succession this weekend but couldn't find the goal that would have beaten visitors Watford up at Storthes Hall and extended their 100% start to the season.
Town had three very good chances during the game - two in the first-half and one in the second - that fell to the normally clinical Daniel Broadbent but he couldn't convert one into a winning goal.
Manager Graham Mitchell (pictured) set up his team in a 3-4-3 formation to start the game, with borrowed goalkeeper Aaron Jameson extending his stay from Sheffield Wednesday given Alex Smithies continued absence due to England World Cup duty and once again lining up in goal for the young Terriers.
He was protected by the strong centre-back trio of Spencer Harris, Shane Killock and Daniel Codman while in front of them Town had four in midfield; Dave Pickering, Lewis Collinson, Lewis Nightingale and Tom Jackson. Up front, Danny Barlow and Chris Pert flanked the central Broadbent.
After 45 minutes, Mitchell switched to 4-4-2 - moving Pickering to right-back and replacing Pert and Collinson with Luke Williams and Luke Durham. Durham played on the right-wing with Tom Jackson on the left and Williams a direct replacement for Collinson in the centre.
However, it was to no avail as Town could not break the deadlock in the 90 minutes.
"We didn't play as well as we did at Wolves last weekend", manager Mitchell explained to htafc.com. "We did play some good passing football in patches, but we weren't as fluent.
"Having two clean sheets in two games is definitely a positive and we are defending very well as a team so far this season. Being unbeaten in two games is great too as it will undoubtedly give the lads some confidence, but as we always say results are not the 'be all and end all' at this level."
Next weekend's clash at Liverpool has been called off at the request of the home side and so Town are not in FA Premier Academy League action until Wednesday 5th August, when we host Blackburn Rovers at Storthes Hall in a 2pm kick-off. Mitchell and the Academy staff have arranged a friendly game to fill the void this weekend, but this match is behind closed doors.
