BOOTHY PROMOTES READING DIARIES

25 September 2013

Ambassador visits St Andrews Junior School

Club Ambassador Andy Booth paid a visit to school partner St Andrews Junior School in Brighouse recently to promote this year’s Town Foundation Reading Diaries.

Boothy, who was joined by the charity’s mascot Captain Booth, spoke with the children about the importance of the reading diary and how it could help improve their learning.

Each pupil at the school received a diary thanks to the Foundation to help them record the books that they have read outside of school hours. The diaries are also full of useful hints and tips on how to become a better reader.

As well as speaking to the pupils about the diaries, the former Town striker also spoke about his career and was the guest at the school’s special assembly where he was involved in a question and answer session.

Literacy Co-Ordinator at St Andrew’s Ms Susan Fischler commented: “I would like to thank Andy and Huddersfield Town for the visiting the school today and speaking to the pupils. We are delighted to have taken stock of the diaries and believe our pupils will benefit educationally whilst gaining enjoyment from using the diaries at home with their families.”

Town Foundation Fundraiser Mandy Taylor added “ St Andrews is one of nearly 70 schools across Kirklees to receive the complimentary reading diaries, which in total will benefit 15,000 children per term – all thanks to the invaluable support of Club Partners Igloo Books and Kid Premiership. As a charity we pride ourselves on our commitment to influencing the lives of children and young people whether it be via education or any other of our on going initiatives”

Town’s School Partnership is a free scheme for education establishments in West Yorkshire. The scheme currently features 55 schools who are regularly receiving cash back from ticket sales, coaching sessions and player visits.
