Manager disappointed with Blackburn display
Huddersfield Town Manager Mark Robins felt that his side contributed to Blackburn Rovers’ victory at the John Smith’s Stadium this afternoon.
He said: “We contributed to their win; it’s as simple as that. I thought we were poor to start with and we weren’t on the front foot, but then we grew into the game and we finished the first half stronger than the opposition.
“We got ourselves into some good positions and created one or two chances. We had match winners that we could get involved, with James Vaughan, I brought him on to get him some minutes at the end and get him up-front with Nahki to try and get a goal, which happened.
“But on the other side they had four shots in the second half and they scored three goals that we gifted them,” he said.
“It was just disappointing (the mistakes); we were naïve and gifted them goals, whereas we had to work for everything."
With eleven games left this season Robins wants to ensure that the Terriers consolidate their position.
He said: “I think we’ve got to make sure that we consolidate our position now. If we had won today we would have gone tenth and I think we’re a little bit frightened of going on a run and climbing up this league.
“There have been some really good performances over the last few months, and we’ve just get back to where we were.”
Today saw the return of former Town favourite Jordan Rhodes and the striker was in a clinical mood.
“It was a great day for Jordan (Rhodes). We know he can finish, but we’ve gifted him the chances and we’re kicking ourselves because we’ve wasted another golden opportunity to climb this league.”
Leading scorer James Vaughan made a return from injury today off the bench, but Robins is unsure how much the striker will feature against Blackpool.
Robins: “It depends on how the week goes with James. He looked sharp today but it was only for 20 minutes so we’ll have to see.”
Two of Town’s strikers have departed over the last couple of days, with Cristian Lopez leaving to Northampton and Martin Paterson joining Bristol City.
Robins said: “Cristian hasn’t been involved this season. He signed a one year deal for us and he hasn’t been able to get in. With eleven games left it’s for him to go and try and gain a contract elsewhere for next year. Martin’s an experienced player who needs to go and get some games so we have allowed him to do that.”
