MARK ROBINS: TRUST ME

Manager reflects on 2-2 draw

Huddersfield Town Manager Mark Robins defended his decision to replace goal scorer Nahki Wells for James Vaughan and asked fans to trust him.

Robins’ decision to replace Wells for Vaughan proved unpopular with the Town faithful, but Town’s Manager felt that tactically it was the correct move.

He said: “Nahki Wells was outstanding and he wasn’t replaced because he was poor, he was tiring. We had James Vaughan who was raring to go and the crowd just have to trust me. I will take the stick, but I will continue to make the decisions that I feel are right for the team.

“We couldn’t afford to go two upfront as it would have left us too open in midfield. They are a decent team and they would have passed it around us. We matched them up well and we couldn’t afford to lose a man in the middle.

“Nahki worked his socks off in the role and we wanted to give James some more time on the pitch to build up his fitness. They played together on Saturday and it didn’t quite work, James isn’t fit enough yet. He gave us energy up front and when we can we will get them on the pitch together.”

The Terriers started well and took an early lead through Adam Hammill, but misplaced passes proved costly as Middlesbrough twice came from behind to earn a point.

“We got in their faces and started the game really well which culminated in us scoring, but straight away we have gone about giving them a goal, which made things interesting.

“We need to cut those errors out of our game because on the whole we did ok,” said Mark.

"The crowd were edgy and it was the first time I have felt that, but they have to stay with us because the players will stop passing it,” he added.

Oscar Gobern was influential in both Town goals, but it was his under hit pass, which gifted Boro their opening goal.

“He is a good player, but he hasn’t performed enough this season,” Mark said. “The chance is there for him though, because there have been indifferent performances of late. He proved that he could do the job at the start and then his rustiness caught up with him when he put them through on goal.”
