MARK ROBINS: WE OWE A PERFORMANCE

11 April 2014

Manager comments on Derby game

Huddersfield Town Manager Mark Robins says his team owe the Club’s supporters a performance ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship game at Derby County.

Robins admitted that the showing in Tuesday’s defeat at the hands of Ipswich was the worst in his time as a Manager and is adamant his side must respond.

“It was tough to watch and hard to take on Tuesday; I was embarrassed watching it,” Mark told htafc.com

“We cannot repeat that performance in our careers again; it has to be a one-off.  It was totally wrong and it cannot happen.

“We have to put a performance in that warrants the shirt; that is the key now. First and foremost, everyone must show the pride to work for their shirt. Like everyone else, the players were not happy with what they produced on Tuesday night.

“I said after the game we couldn’t dwell on it - we’ve had to learn and move on. We can’t carry those feelings into Saturday’s game; we need to concentrate on what we did well at Reading, when we did enough to win the game.

“Six weeks ago we were within five points of the Play-Offs, so to be sat in this position is massively disappointing. We have a capable group of players; one that needs to perform from now until the end of the season.

“We owe the supporters proper performances from now until the end of the season; that is how we will earn the supporters’ respect. We want to excite our supporters, not antagonise them. We know our team can play and perform, but we have to go and prove that. We have to show a good level of performance, commitment and bravery.

“Derby represents a good opportunity for us; they are a good side that is going for promotion. We know it is a hard game, but we want to bounce back and get a victory. It’s time to roll our sleeves up and get on with it.

“We have five games until the end of this season and if players don’t perform, they don’t have a future here. You only get a career in this game if you work your socks off every single day, showing the right attitude to work, learn and improve.

“I’m not thinking further ahead than tomorrow’s game and getting a performance out of the players. We’re working as hard as we possibly can do to get that performance and the result.”
