ROBINS: JAMES COULD HAVE SCORED MORE!

15 July 2014

Manager delighted with striker’s hat trick

Mark Robins was delighted to see last season’s top scorer James Vaughan bag a hat trick in his first pre-season outing.

Vaughan netted a second half treble to earn the Terriers a 3-1 victory over Doncaster in their first match of their Portugal trip.

“The goals will do James a world of good because he has been out of action for a long time,” said Robins. “He came on in the second half and managed to get a hat trick and had opportunities to get a few more. He finished off the moves well, which were crafted nicely. I thought we were good and controlled the game for large parts.”

The victory is Town’s second 3-1 success of their 2014/15 pre-season campaign following the victory against AEL Limassol (click HERE) at PPG Canalside and Mark was once again pleased with the application of his players.

“It was an excellent work out,” he said. “We have got 24 players with us in Portugal and our aim is to get them as fit as possible ahead of the first game of the season.

“It is early days and we are only in the second week of pre-season, but it was very pleasing to get another game under our belts having played against AEL Limassol on Saturday. Today’s game against Doncaster was played in something like 35 degrees heat and it was a really good work out.

“Doncaster has got a really good squad and have kept a lot of their players from last season. However, I was pleased with how each individual did; they all looked sharp.”

Town will now train at their Portugal base ahead of Saturday’s match against Segunda Divisao side SC Portimonense.

“There is a lot of positivity throughout the camp at the moment. Everyone is working hard, but they are also have down time to get to know one another, which is good. The main  thing is that they are getting plenty of work into their legs. I am pleased with their efforts on the training pitch and also the quality of football that we have shown in the two games so far.”
